i built this box in july and got it in and playing last week , although it does sound good enough and gets a little loud i was expecting a little more . i have 3 jl 13w1 subs , 2 of them i have had for 3 years and have also had them in the same vehicle in a different enclosure . this enclosure is sealed and somewhere in the range of 6.24 cubic ft to 8.12 cubic foot , 1 common space inside the box , its hard to say exactly because of the baffle and such . they seem to me to be peaky around 30-40 hz , not exact . 3 4ohm subs wired at 1.33 ohms on a tma 1000.1 monoblock amp , everything flat . a few thoughts come to mind , aero ports , taking some internal volume away , or lining the inside of the box with convoluted foam . not really sure which way to go from here . jl says 1.5 cub per sub sealed and 2.625 cub ported . looks like i am in the ballpark for ported , but i haven't really liked the ported enclosures i have built in the past . i have move the box closer to and farther from the hatch and found the sweet spot with that . looking for any helpful feedback or direction , thanks

welcome , what part of mn are you at ? i am in lakefield -
my friend has a h.264 dvr for surveillance with out hard drive . it calls for a sata hard drive . my question is this , i have a seagate 160 gb ultra ata hard drive sitting around . is there enough of a difference between sata and ultra ata drives to where it wouldn't work . thanks in advance for anyone who can explain this a bit for me .

i just did a glass project in 98 degree heat and despite mixing less hardener , i still couldn't work fast enough to work a quart of resin . less hardener and small batches of resin is my $.02 and go go go go go go go once you mix your resin . have it all ready to go before you mix .

sorry for so few of pics , i did brace with a dowel and fiberglass on the inside corners , still haven't decided how i am going to finish my box , 3 jl 13w1 4ohm subs wired to 1.3 ohms . next on my list is an amp rack . after hearing my sub set up i am thinking about taking some volume away or going ported . without figuring the baffle or woofer displacement i am at about 6 cubic ft all 1 chamber which more per sub than jl recommends . i started this box build with out any real plan and just kind of shot from the hip . the baffle was about the only plan i had. -
alpine type r is good for rap . for best bang for the buck and best low performance i would go for a 15 if you only plan to run 1 sub .sundown has a 15 for $130 . otherwise here is a deal for you if budget is a biggy http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/p_19376_Orion_CO154s.aspx i might buy a couple of these when i get some more cash

damn , well your box looks like it shouldn't be too bad to fix . i would get the part that blew out to fit good and then screw it and glue it put screws in different places the screw holes that let go are no good . might be a good idea to do some fiberglass on the inside corners to re-enforce it .

what kind of sub and amp combo did that ?

the blade on your saw can make things easier or tougher to cut straight to , not sure if it is worth the money but i have been thinking about this blade for my circ saw http://www.homedepot.com/buy/tools-hardware-power-tool-accessories-saw-blades-circular-blades/surya-cosmopolitan-cos-8904-brown-3-ft-6-in-x-5-area-rug-181147.html

i have a table saw and i don't find it very helpful for box building because the table isn't big enough to easily be able to run a full sheet of wood through . for long straight cuts i have had best results using a drywall square and a couple of clamps to hold it in place as a guide for my circular saw . lumber yards have a rip saw and are usually willing to make a few rip cuts as a favor for being a customer , the lumber yard i go to has this saw on tracks and it does a nice job but i would find out what a lumber yard has before having them rip a sheet of board . sometimes a trim bit in a router can be helpful for cleaning up a proud edge .

update , got 1 more 13w1 sub , and just got the first round of resin on my baffle here are some pics , internal bracing to come later took to quarts of resin to get the fleece wet , thinking maybe i should have bought 2 gallons of resin .not sure how i am going to finish this box yet , i thought about trying to wrap it in vinyl , if nothing else spray on bed liner doesn't look too bad and it's good for hiding your goof ups -
i have thought about morel a time or 2 , first seen morel in parts express many years ago , didn't know until recently that they were in the car audio game . for not being mainstream they can't be bad speakers for the company to stay in business as long as they have . on another note parts express still has the $9 dollar focal 6.5 inch midbass

i can't tell you about the c3's but i have had some jl audio tr's and thought they were kind of harsh , but i was also running them on deck power (alpine) they are currently out of stock but here is a deal if you want to give them a try . i didn;t care to wait otherwise i would have jumped on these for $130 a pair . still might in the near future . http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_27143_JL-Audio-C3-650CW.html

I really wish more people lived near me that have issues like that, or that I knew about them. I'd fix it for free. On a side note, my work throws out computers faster than that by the hundreds. I threw away 22 pounds of ram last week. Some of the desktops at work are still old Dell GX260's with 512 megs of ram. Luckily we're told to replace them with at least a core2 or better. i take it you know a thing or 2 about computers , how does a guy get a fresh copy of windows without spending $100 or close to ? i'm always thinking about picking up has been computers and replacing parts to get a cheap computer that runs ok . last time i had to use a computer at the public library , they replaced most of the dells with these turds of computers these little acers are slow enough to piss me off and i am a somewhat patient person

i really can't answer you why an amp might fail because i don't know enough about how an amp works to break it down , shorted mosfets is a common failure of amps , so is the power supply . assuming your install was good and all settings were good you may have just gotten a dud . but i would really suggest that you double check every thing before too long when you get your replacement amp . i would also recommend a voltage meter , when your voltage dips playing full tilt your amp has to work alot harder and low voltage can make an amp very unhappy

i would take the back off and have a look . i would expect to find a burnt mosfet or a toasted transformer
