best way to ground battery on trunk with unibody ?

Recommended Posts

i only have one battery and it has been moved to the trunk, right now i have battery grounded to the strut tower in the back and a ground in front going from engine to strut tower and another going from transmission to frame, im still not getting the best of electric, voltage drops on 1kwRMS audio but i even get a bouncing gauge with turn signal, was wondering if i am having bad ground ?

only have one battery relocated to trunk

power wire is 1/0 50mm^2 welding cable

Battery ground is 1/0 welding cable

ground from engine to strut tower is 1/0 welding cable

and ground from tranny to frame is 2/0 wire ( salvaged from a hybrid car )

your best bet is drilling through and grounding directly to the frame rail.. its the thickest peice of metal on the car. and it is a straight peice from the front to back.. no spot welds for electricity to have to go through..

ground there up front and in the back.

scratch all the paint away from all the connections with wire

all electrical and ground connections have been soldered solid and all ground locations were made with bare metal i could see a reflection in

Use a DMM to check voltage drop across LARGE parts of the car, For instance, the floor of the trunk should be a fine ground point. Any LARGE area's of metal are most likely part of the main chassis. If you are really worried about it, the rear bench seat will be bolted to the frame, those bolts are probably accesible from the trunk.

Frame rail, or run 1/0 back to the alternator mounting bracket.
