bassl0va
Sadly, the reality is that allthough sound, particularly quality of sound is truly subjective, it is in fact going to be based on what the best thing you have heard is. So if you have only heard Skull Candy ear buds on an iPod, or your buddies BTL, you have nothing to compare to. This is where a nice brick and mortor shop is nice to have around to audition high end sound. Even better is to get into some high end home audio where good music can be demonstrated properly. Best of all, go to a live concert, not a rock concert, but something small and live. Sorry, End Rant. x1,000,000,000,000,0001,000,000,000,000 Retired dudes with a house, 2 garages and a rented storage room filled with vintage audio gear is also a good source of high end demos. Or his friends shop that sells similar stuff. Those 2 and my mothers cousin and his super expensive headphone gear are the most amazing this to listen to music on. You just can't describe how awesome it sounds. It's like another world. tonedeaf
Exactly what Reilly said...same reason all the "noobs" run alpine or kicker and or kenwoods and think It's the best thing in the world. They have never bothered to try to hear something better.
bigmescan
My uncle plays bass and I've been to his concert and I've sat with the sound engineer so I'm pretty sure what its suppose to sound and feel like that is. Bass that is. I just don't like when someone says not good on music and there box and how its setup may not be proper. Not nut huggin but if Steve Meade says hey man get this sub over that one cause its more musical. Then I would take his advice. Sir-Lancelot
IMO a musical sub is one that plays pretty flat in the subbass region and does not have that big peak in frequency. Take a BTL for example, yes it can and does sound really good but by design it peaks higher and is designed to get louder at certain frequencies. I think musical and can play music are two different things. notorious97200
If you listen to jazz for example, you need a more "musical" sub. But for rap and r&b, you may have enough "quality"with any sub : no need to search for sq subs ! I was totally satisfied with my old sub, an SSA Xcon 15": it sounded so good, with much output. I could hear all the bass notes/lines from any jazz or reggae song ! It played all the details in the music. Not only boom boom bass ! I run a Fi btl N2 12" for now, still like new : it is more...brutal, but sounds good too. I need to play more with it to really compare both. But I already know it plays much better than my Kicker S15 L7 (I had it in several sealed and ported boxes).
