audio1der
Do you guys run multiple batteries purely for key-off playing time? Trying to figure out what I need to keep my lights from dimming severely on my undersized stock electrical system (even while driving). I have the ability to run 2 batteries (parallel) and wondered if that would help, or if I need a HO alt. Only 550W RMS in an '01 Nissan Sentra. Thanks guys- love the forum! Guest
first question that comes to mind is, why do you want to play your stereo with the car off?
Trâgîk
You would be ok just doing the big 3 and get a nice big AGM batteey under the hood. TeamHT
If your lights are swimming off of 550 watts you might to start checking all connections. And multiple batteries are a requirement when you're pulling excessive amounts of current. You're not. Check grounds, do the big 3, and possibly upgrade the battery...it could be dying. Have you checked whether or not its holding its charge? What is it resting at? Quote Tell me...does this smell like chloroform to you?
hdorre
We do it for reserve. Extras are necessary when our car and its accessories demand more current than our alt(s) can supply. Of course some people use them so they can play with their car off. For ur system, I would do the big 3 and replace the starter with a nice AGM (preferably XS) Quote On 5/8/2011 at 7:38 PM, Kranny said: On 5/8/2011 at 7:35 PM, 'Maxim' said: It hurts me inside when I read stuff like this and remember you're 15 LMFAO so true Mitsubishi 3000GT (Old Build) Headunit: Pioneer 80PRS Frontstage: (2) McLaren Audio MLT-2 Tweeters & (4) PRV Audio MR Series Neo 6.5" Mids Substage: 4 15" Hybrid Subs - Tantric Motors & Sundown Softies Amps: Banda 2.4D Amp (Tweets), American Bass VFL 350.4 (Mids), and (2) Ampere 3800s Electrical :Singer 260A Alt & JY Power Lithium 2005 Chevy Colorado Ext Cab Headunit: Pioneer 80PRS Frontstage: 4 PRV 700Ti Tweets & 6 10" Delta Mids on 3000wrms Substage: 6 Fi BTL 18s in a 4th Order Walkthrough on 3 Wolfram 4500s Electrical: Singer "390" and JY Power My Official Feedback Thread

Autruche
People run multiple batteries because large sound systems require a large amount of current, and you can't rely on your alternator to directly supply your amps, you need to have batteries. An amp draws it's power from batteries, and the alternator simply keeps the batteries charged. If you don't have that reserve power on tap, you won't be able to maintain full tilt for long. Think of it as a gas tank and a gas pump for a race car - you need the gas in your tank for when you drive the car on the track, and you need to take it to the pump when your tank is low. If you have a small tank you are going to have to hit the pits for fuel more often, if you have a larger tank you can run full throttle for longer, and a larger alternator is like a gas pump that can pump faster, meaning you will fill your tank back up faster. At the power you're running you shouldn't have any trouble, but if you do try doing the big three, if that doesn't work, then try getting a better battery, not just one from off the shelf at walmart, there is no need for running 2 batteries yet.
