jconnway Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 Just looking for ideas, I'm running 4 amps and I want 2 of them to be off a switch (the sub amps). What I'm thinking is I'll run a standard relay harness and split the outputs into two wires, one going to one set of amps and the other being re-routed to a simple switch. All that is pretty simple and I've done things like that before but I was wondering.. since the relay is going to be buried somewhere in the center console, there is a cig lighter i NEVER use for anything. Would that be a good wire to get the constant 12v+ from? Or should I keep digging and tap the ignition or something.. that's what I'm running my under-dash led's off of. What would also be cool is I could remove the metal adaptor from the cig lighter and flush mount the amp switch in there so its basically a hidden toggle for the bass. I already have two bass knobs so I'm not to keen on running another switch in the open... its a driver seat not a cockpit lol. what do you guys think? hdorre Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 You may be able to use the cig lighter for a CONSTANT positive. Some lighters use negative polarity or something. if it is negative it wouldnt be a good option without a converter. for the amps, I would just connect the relay to the headunit's remote turn on trigger. jconnway Posted March 14, 2011 Author Report Posted March 14, 2011 thats an idea too... my car (07 accord) has a cool spring loaded cover over the DC lighter socket so if i flush the switch in there that'd be sick! and it'd be a shame to waste that perfectly good 12v thats already there. ill do some digging around Full Pioneer Build 4 Per Door - Front Door Build Up
Sanitarium Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 my relay is mounted within like 6 inches of my buss bars so i get all my power from those. then i let the headunit turn it on for me. it's switching on 4 amps for me and powering some lights inside my box (see the blue glow in my signature banner)
Supercharged DCs Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 I ran my Stroker 122 on a 1200w Kicker amp wired to a switch in the cigarette lighter. It worked fine for me Bassless once again. Can't seem to keep a system for more than a few weeks Saving for a '06 Nissan 350z, look for build around June 2012.
