Ford Taurus Upgrades

Before anyone freaks out and calls me dumb for my decisions (As I know a few will) I do not care if what I'm doing to my 02 Taurus is dumb or whatever. I do the things I do because it's unique. Like my butterfly doors. Is butterfly doors on a Taurus stupid? Yes. But have you ever seen butterfly doors on a Taurus before? That's why I did it. So my next project (On top of upgrading my 15" cadence to (2) DC XL 10's) is to upgrade the engine. I've got about 110k on the stock engine, so I'm looking at replacing this one. The thing is... I don't want an ordinary engine. I want a big, mean, powerful engine. One that's capable of giving a stock Camaro a run for it's money. But does Ford even make any high-performance engines for a Taurus? Where would I look to find a high-performance engine? Price is not a big deal.

The new Taurus SHO is rated at 365 hp, and with a few mods could possibly get close to 450. Tho I don't know if that engine would work in your Taurus, but that would be cool as hell.

fuck all that. if you want something truely unique you would have to modify the piss out of this car. my vote is for a chevy 527 in that bitch. i can gaurentee that that hasnt been done before. however taking a ford and dropping a chevy engine in it not only would require some heavy mods to the engine and tranny mounts, it also would require body modifications to allow that engine to fit. and on top of that you would have to basicly completely rewire the car for it to accept a chevy engine and actualy work. anyway, i dont know that you will find a ford engine that is high performance and will just bolt in and plug right up and work. you are talking about a MAJOR project here, i would definatly do a little more research on swapping engines before you start.

Do you have a budget for this? What engine does the car have now? The 3.0 motor from an Eclipse with a big turbo would be doable. Or maybe a 4.6 FWD setup from a Caddy. Any swap in a front wheel drive will be some work. Good Luck.

How about an H22 swap, again big turbo. Honda motors can be had for pretty cheap and are reliable.

Well, the SHO version engine was rated at 235hp. They stopped offering that engine in 1999, though later models carried over the same base engine. So it might fit.

Of course that's still not enough to beat a Camaro (Though seeing one try would be good for laughs) You could turbo it, but the FWD transmissions of the Taurus was junk.

They just didn't really make aftermarket parts for those cars. So any parts would be custom . Any swap of a different maker would be a pain.........You would spend A TON of money to make a Taurus fast.

Ford def makes some big engines to go in there, but the work to do something like that would be rediculous. Youll basically have to build a new car. a new engine a new tranny a new rear end just about a new everything. Youd almost be better off either selling that or simply buying anohter car and starting there. use the taurus as ur daily, have ur new car as your lambo door bass pounder/ racer. starting with a mustang or something will be years ahead of starting from a stock taurus. if money is really no object that is. youll also have to decide, if you want something fast in a straight line or do you want something that can mix it up in the bends as well.

if it were me, you gotta get the right wheels driving first FWD racing FTL, in a RWD platform id prolly get a miata and drop a ford v8 in that. again if money was no object. you could easilly keep up with most on the street and straight up leave em for dead in the corners.

but thats just me.
