The cases are different.

As said above the S3400 and D3400 are the same exact battery. Only differences are the S3400 has red decals and comes with automotive posts. The D3400 has blue decals and comes with hardware to run ring terminals. If you would rather have the blue decals and run it under the hood with automotive terminals, then you can purchase a set of 580 SAE Automotive Posts.

If you are running side posts then you may want to look at the 551 or 555 iBar kits. If you have any other questions just let me know.

From the man himself. :drink40:

I actually make alternators and brackets, so it wasn't too bad. I wouldn't recommend just anyone pick up parts and try to build their own alt. Way too many reasons to list, but it's not just popping a case apart, slapping in a stator, and having a 300 amp alternator that lasts the life of the vehicle. There are companies like Mechman that make alts costing at least twice that of a rebuild kit - and for GOOD reason. For 99.99% of people I recommend going with someone like them instead of trying to tackle it yourself.

Sir-Lancealot, I'm trying to get this hooked up just for that reason. :drinks:
