chrishova
Hello, I have a H.O. alt. (220amps) and the big 3 and want to put in a second battery. I need to know how to wire it and do I need a relay, isolator, what? Any wiring diagrams will help. Thank yall! Quote Pontiac Grand Prix GT400a Mean Machine alt. blownengine
Parallel. Positive to Positive, negative to negative. 0 gauge preferably. I would also throw some grounds on the second battery too. blownengine
It's a good idea to run a negative as well. matt14
So run two fuses inline between the front and rear batteries, then a fuse between the secondary battery to the amp. Should the fuses between the two batteries be the total of what the amps would he pulling, so for instance 300 for the sub amp and 60 for a 4channel for a total of two 360amp fuses? sprkn_ranger
Follow my guide son Second Battery Wiring Guide That's a good diagram! And yes, it is a must to fuse as close as you can to each battery. If you don't your gonna have a nice car-b-que when something shorts out. Edit- and each fuse should be rated for what the wire can handle. If it can handle 300A for example, then use a 300A at the front batt, a 300A at the rear, and a 300A between the rear batt and amp (assuming your using the same wire for your amp.) And always fuse as close to the battery's as you can.
