SasquatchREG32
I have a DC XL 15" being powered by a RF T2000-1bd and I need help deciding which to upgrade first, alternator or battery? My voltage is super low when I play my music (10.4-11.3v). Big 3 is done, I have 1/0 wires all around, and a yellow top optima under the hood is all I have at the moment. My car is a 1996 Civic Ex coupe (yes it's a tiny car) I don't have much money to spend so whatever is the best solution please let me know. BTW I have an aftermarket alternator that's "supposed" to do 130 amps but ive never bench tested it Edited April 12, 2011 by SasquatchREG32
wizart383
IMO I would get the alternator first. Which alternator are you getting. If your funds are kinda low you might want to check out sears yes sears the sell diehard platinum agm battery's. If you get a diehard platinum make sure it's a marine batt (the blue one)group 31 or 34 Edited April 12, 2011 by wizart383
Azagtoth502
That voltage is dreadful. Quote pa-pa-platypus sorry not everybody has a companies nuts so far down their throat they catch every drop ball sweat when it falls
carlosg_313
start with a second battery for budget reasons in the trunk with 1/0 wiring IMO. but consider this, lower voltage puts a load on an alt that will give out in the future. but if money is not an issue, ALT is recommended first so it can power the amp efficiently without those low voltage you getting. mr.p
At this point i would run down to the store and snag up some 55$ cheapo walmart batteries and toss in the trunk. Quote DCAUDIO BALLS DEEP
AMI CUSTOMS
Ideally, do both at the same time, for a few reasons, first off you need either a better/bigger starting battery or a second battery and best would be to replace that optima with a better agm. If you just replace the battery, alt is still working at full potential all the time if you have the system all the way up, and your battery is still going to drop, over time, it will weaken that battery and eventually it will fail. If you have the alt that will cover your entire current demand and battery reserve to cover it to. You will never have voltage drop. Ideally, a 270 amp alt and a ground 31 battery would fit this setup like a dream. 14.8 no drop ever. jmilch
+1 on getting a decent ho alt. In the long run it will be the best investment you can make. SasquatchREG32
270 amps? That's huge!! I was looking into some alternators and from what I've read and what people tell me 160-180 amps is all I need. I might be wrong here cause I'm still noob at this sound system stuff. Ideally I have about $350 to spend on either a better alt or batt that's why I'm asking this question.
