Component advantage over coaxials

Recommended Posts

I will say anything with proper crossovers are going to much better, when you just get coaxial they just put a capacitor inline with the tweeter which filters out the lower notes but also wastes precious energy that would go to the speaker, a crossover I believe will properly separate the tones and not waste nearly as much energy, also when you do that the main woofer cone on the coaxial will be getting the really high tones as they are not filtered out, I would go with a set of components. Honestly those rockfords im sure are nice, but you could get better, what is your budget for these speakers that you can spend?

Looking at the Rockfords just to match brands with the 8's, and I can get the RF stuff for a very good price. I got a $350 budget for 2 sets of components. They gotta be AT LEAST 100w RMS, preferably more. I'm open to suggestions.

I have these and love them, they are so accurate and tight Link to Components

will warn ya, the crossovers are huge on these, but look sick for showing off!

I was looking at re xxx comps 250rms 2 ohm for the 175.4 but the cheapest I could find was 250 a pair and they seem pretty beefy

I've contemplated these, but then I could only use one set. My rear channels on the 175.4 are for the midbass 8's. Unless, they could play the midrange as good as the P2's.

Little too pricey for one set of comps for me. I would get Focal or Hertz if I had that money.

components are great when your mids are installed off axis and you need your tweeters on axis. they are also great if you need mid or tweeter powered more than the other.

some cars coax work just as well as components and some need components to get the staging correct

the two sets you picked out, the coaxial has a cheaper, i believe smaller, metal tweeter. plus no crossovers. the mid looks to be the same though.

i always say this but, get the ID CTX comps while you still can. i dont think anything shakes a stick at it for the price. nothing i have heard yet at least.
