In search of the right SQ sub

Haha yeah I was going more for around the forums. I haven't seen anyone running Fi around here (Pittsburgh), but then again I don't look inside all the cars I hear bumping in traffic, so who knows really. There has been an explosion of DC around the forums lately though, so I haven't looked into them. I just like being different.

DD>FI

Typical nuthugger response.

Fi and DD have their own customers, their own niche.

Fi is better in a this one, DD better in that one.

You can't just say FI>DD or DD>Fi.

Not a fan of sealed DD's, but if ya gotta, 2500's the way to go. I'd do a 2510 ported personally I'd it's a space thing. I've got a customer with a 2515 ported large 4.5 cubes, really flat. Playes within 1.3 db from 26-56 hz sealed up, peaks in the 20's opened up, smooth and fast too. Audison A/B sub amp doesn't hurt either.

On that note, A/B amps tend to have a big gain in damping and slew with going from 1ohm to say 4ohms, class D not much.

actually yes I can, the FI is to low end heavy for an sq instal with no eqing. maybe it's my fault that I have experience with the situation

Without EQ, yes, but most "SQ" installs have a EQ or some kind of processor.

And you don't know what he means by SQ, does he wants true SQ or does he misinterpret the term wrong and he wants a subwoofer that sounds good to his ears? (maybe he likes more low end.. you never know)

You are right if you don't use a EQ it won't be SQ in it's definition. :)

I'm not looking for a completely flat response curve from my install. However, every ported enclosure I have ever listened to peaks like mad at some frequency. It's kind of annoying to have one note in a song be loud, then have another be REALLY loud. I'm looking to kind of tame that behavior with a sealed enclosure. I will have an EQ going in this system- that's yet another thing I have to research thoroughly.
