Not quite...that's an over-simplification of what's actually happening. The power is still AC because it is still a sine wave, DC power will not appear as a sine wave on an oscilloscope because it is direct, not alternating. Without going into an overly complex explanation of electricity just understand when an amp is clipping it is exceeding the internal abilities of the amplifier to amplify the AC signal.
