Just to think I could of filled up for 2 months straight for the price of filling up one tank of gas today.. that is messed up. chewie Posted April 28, 2011 Report Share Posted April 28, 2011 if your car does NOT say it NEEDS premium and you run it you are wasting your money.. premium gas is needed for high compression motors with large cam profiles. it burns slower and more controlled and unless your car needs it you get less gas mileage.. low grade fuel burns more violent and fast. it is easier to ignite than premium as well its meant for lower compression motors. it does not burn any dirtier than premium example.. my geo metro. premium 38 mpg. and idling/ running like garbage.. went online to find out why.. talked to a guy and he explained to me about what premium really means. my car was not meant for premium gas and since it burned so much slower i could actually burn a exhaust valve. because it would still be burning once it opened.. at the end of the power stroke. also i was told i am wasting my mileage. switched to 87 the car LOVED IT.. idled smooth had more power and got way better gas mileage.. Its been awhile now but i remember when gas first went over a dollar, i was younger and it was the talk of all the older folk.
