shop owners lying to customers

Need to vent. i work at a very small shop. The owner/tinter and me, the installer. Guy doesnt pay anything for sales that I make, I just have to hope they let me install it. So he closes the shop to go run personal errands almost daily, leaving customers who may try to come in wondering wtf? Anyway to the point, I made a sale at around $1150. Planning on ordering basic system, 2-10's,box, amp, 2 sets highs, tweeters, cd player, installation. Instead of ordering what me and the customer talked about, he decides to sell him something already in the store. Already tried to sell that package to customer. Wouldnt pay any more money. No problem. Boss said customers is getting what boss wants to sell. I said I dont want to piss the guy off. Boss says no problem, I will handle it. So I walk up front and hear him "handling it". The asshole told the customer I miscalculated the total and it was my fault. He didnt offer them any compensation for my supposed "mistake". So the customer leaves his sunglasses on the counter after having his nerves rattled by my boss telling him basically to come up with the rest of the money. WTf? I ran the glasses out to his car, and he ased me about my mistake. I told him I didnt know what the boss was talking about, that the total was correct, and that I know my work. I'm sure many installers will think this is something petty to even worry about, but it royally pissed me off. How would any of you who install for a living handle this?

I hate confrontation but that guy seems to be an outright ass! I as a customer would never visit there again. I wish you the best and hope that you can find a better position elsewhere.

This is exactly why I don't work at either of the two install shops in my area. The shop I did work at for some time, my boss just doesn't have the slightest clue about anything he is selling. Doesn't know anything about home/car audio, doesn't know anything about TVs, and can't even use a plug-in let alone wire something. Shouldn't you at least take up an interest in the business that is making you money? And he was kind of a dickhead, long story short my boss yelled at me for doing a couple of very big installs on the side with equipment not supplied by him, so I just quit. The "master installer" that worked with me had a fraction of my skills, but he was the master installer because he was there longer. Guy took all day to build one sealed wedge box while I was twisted under the dash installing 6-9 alarms and remote starts all day. And that was just the store I worked at for some time, the other place in town is full of incompetent people, they know a lot about TVs (but so does the guy at wally world) and nothing about anything else. They're a red to red, black to black kind of install place. I don't associate myself with either install shop anymore, there's more money to be had working for your self taking away their business. Unfortunately a majority of install shops throughout the country are of this caliber, only a few provide real customer service and quality professional install at a realistic price.

EDIT: And when I say dickhead, I mean he did the same thing your boss does. He locked up shop whenever he wanted, closed two hours early or opened late. And he consistently told customers they were wrong and then pushed our most expensive product on them. I can only imagine how much potential business he had pushed away.

you just need to come to the realization...that your an employee and that an Owner does what they want with thier business. if they fuck up then they fuck up...not honestly anything you can do about it.

Besides find a better shop to work for, and tell this guy how much of a douche bag he is
