in all honesty listen to them for yourself, because no matter what a SQ judge tells you, if you dont like them it doesnt matter what they say.

I dont compete in sq because i dont care what others think about my music. i have nothing wrong with what they do over there but i'll argue until the cows come home about it being subjective as all hell.

Sound Quality is all about stageing and imageing ... making sure your vehicle reproduces the best sound possible ... and installation skills too of course ...

This is what the judges do ... make sure your car stages and images ... Sinse your in competition with other people/vehicles, their job is to find mistakes in your ride ... the one with the least mistakes wins ... simple ...

What is so subjective about that ??? Your in a competition ... I all honesty, you are there (and paid good money) to be better that the other vehicles in your class, you are not in competition against the judges ...

Back when we were all in high school, not every kid made the base ball team ... you had to be good at what you do ... Sound Quality Competition is no different ...

I never see the judges take it easy on the SPL guys ... What they do on the term lab is what they do ... nothing subjective, thats just the way you play the game ...

True, you build you vehicle the way you want it to perform ... but if you compete with it, you got to play by the rules just like every one else ...

thats my two cents anyways ... I really enjoy Sound Quality competitions ...

Thanks, Randal ...

Interesting point of views. However, coming from a judging stand point I see some truth in both. It is hard not be over impressed with a Mercedes in the lane against a Honda for example. Instantly you are going to assume their is some bad ass equipment in the Mercedes over a Honda. Now you go and look at the ACura that Bing did from Simplicity In Sound and you would know that is not the case.

I judge SPL and in all honesty the scores are done by the computer not the actual judge. For SQ it is on a scale from 1-10 and the judge's opinion so in that aspect I can see the subjective arguements case. However, knowing the SQ judges I work with they appear to judge a vehicle within a 2-3 points from each other so they are fairly evenly subjective across the board.

its subjective when a judge judges a car a 70plus at one event and nothing is changed and you get judged 20 points lower. Its subjective when when 3 judges judge your vehicle one says midbass is perfect another says theres not enough and the third says theres to much midbass.

No 2 people hear the same, theres no possible way that its not subjective. Also its real hard for beginning people to see judges judge each others cars and not THINK theres some fishy business going on(im not saying it is) just perception is there.

the whole , "whos judging" that you see in every event thread.....why the fuck should it matter whos judging if its not subjective? its because those different judges like different things.

That being said. I like the install portion over there in the SQ side alot as its pretty rare to see anyone on the SPL side do anything but slap stuff into a vehicle all haphazardly.

I would agree with all this. As for the slaping things in. Most do. If you ever look they all seem to have the same concept.

So are you all saying its just best not to compete ???

Subjective or not ... Competition is fun to me if not only to demo for people you only get to see once a year ...

That is not the point at all. It is just some truths about SQ judging. I am such a newb on the SQ side I am still curious to learn. James has a better grasp on SQ than I do but, it is true you can build a system for SQ for the season not touch a damn thing and chances are you will never score the same score twice. However, that is not the case I know I have tweaked it every time.
