Forevrbumpn Posted October 17, 2007 Report Share Posted October 17, 2007 (edited) Okay, I decided to post this here, in Home audio, even though its a subwoofer design that can be used in cars as well. I made a test box about a year ago using just a 5.25" woofer, and well, it was pretty loud and clean for JUST a 5.25" Ive been wanting to do a 8", and had plans to do 2- 15"s in my car. But about 6 months ago, I found out someone else designed something just like this, so I was like Blahhh- Back burner.... You all know by now Iam a Quarter Wave JUNKY, I love everything about Tlines and Horns, the idea of building boxes around that design. The box design? well its a -PHASE LINE, thats what I will call it, or PHASE HORN. Basically a subwoofer in a quarter wave enclosre, and it combines the front wave, and rear wave in to one output, and the results? WOW 1- 8" on 35watts tuned to maybe 38-40hz (Just a test box, I didnt care what it was ) I unfortunatly have to take off to drop off the kid at work, and will be back later tonite with pics I will leave you guys with this though...... Now remember, nothing looking nice here, strickly test box here, so dont clown on the gaps and stuff, Gaps aint like me, unless Iam in a hurry, and to anxios to try something new!! So anyways, this is the pics of the Phase Horn, front and rear wave combine together to make 1 sound wave in phase, This is tuned around 38-40hz, so its punchy, but very accurate bassline, I must say accurate!! But its gets LOUD, shakes my walls, and plas lows pretty good. Iam about to throw my PA Bass 10 pre amp on my HK AVR % in a few minutes to listen to a lower bass tone closer to tunning, over the 50 hz standard bass boost from the bass control knob, should sound night and day different... Let the pics begin ^^^ The reciever/AMP Iam using to test it with- 35wrms @8ohm, its running at 4ohms, and Ive had this HK amp down to 2 ohms, and 1 ohm running subs many times, so not worried at all running 4ohms pretty hard, so maybe 50-70watts rms right now? can kinda see the tower speakers, these are unfinished, and have been unfinished for about 6 months, I was going to give them to my dad before he died, but I liked them so much, wow they sound great, I just never got to getting them finished (cosmetically) but they sound greatt!! The concept is way to easy to say anyone inspired me, I seen it and said, "Oh I did that, just on a smaller scale, and it was a horn, not a tline" Ive even posted schematics to other people I talk to in IMs that have built these, this is just the first time I went to a larger woofer size. Again, just really impressed with the bandwidth, accuracy, yet high SPl output so no, I dont say he is my inspiration by any means, I like reading up on guys like Martin King, and all the other oldschool tline KINGs I have like 40+ transmission line and horn websites that show designs, onmy favorites list, and theory on quarterwave, but the least traveled website is That guy... I dont feel box designs should have a price on them, Iam not here to charge people to design a box, but I will charge up the ass to make one Quote I have a ritual called "terminator".
