best trunk

Recommended Posts

I have a 2008 Lancer, I have had an L7 12 in it with a 750, 2 hype r's 12 on 1500, now I have 2 sundown sa-12's on a Ceescendo bc2000. My current setup I just wanted to try something different so I built a box 4ft3 tuned to 35hz. Subs up port toward the cabin. I've done other boxes but not with this setup, I just got the amp before my 2 comps this weekend. In Meca at the headrest with the car off I did a 137.6. In the IASCA event I only did a 136.7 but I messed that up. I do have my trunk custom fitted, well sort of. My question is what have people had the best experience with in their trunks or other people's trunks? I'll post more of my results when I build some more boxes. My buddy has a TL coming so we'll be able to find what works the best

to be honest. no one has ever had any luck iwth that. ports in subs in ports back subs back or subs back ports through the rear deck are the most common for actually getting loud. some cars will like different things but if i was trying to get loud thats where id start. If your seats fold and you dont fire in you really arent serious about it getting loud. It wont be as easy but its the way to go.

Before someone comes in and says i know so and sos babys mamas cousins uncle and he does a 152 firing backwards. Im not saying it cant get loud its just not as common.

No I understand completely, this was just something that I had wanted to try. I'm basically giving my experience to those who may wonder about this. although every trunk and car differ this is my experience, not a good one lol but not horrible

i've tried a few different combinations. my first setup was a little prefab box with some jl 12's in there. it did alright, but i wish i could've tested it with a real box, not some lousy half inch thick piece of junk. the setup did alright for a little prefab box, but again i can't really compare results.

next i attempted to build my first box. i did a really shitty job constructing it, but the fact that i used 3/4 mdf made it considerably louder. the box was supposedly tuned to 35 hz, but i used some online calculator that i'm not sure is quite accurate. torres says it was tuned to 40 hz. but anyways i made 2 separate boxes, one for each 12 since i couldn't fit much else in my trunk, and had the subs and ports facing inwards firing towards eachother. this setup was by far the loudest, deepest, and best sounding.

currently i have a couple of CVX 12's (as my name implies) and i have them in the same boxes subs and ports facing up. i don't like this setup very much, but it's pretty much all i have room for untill i figure out where i'm gonna put my amp (or untill i stop being lazy <_< ). this setup rattles the shit out of everything in (and outside) the car. however, the low notes are not quite as prominent as subs in ports in. this is probably due to the fact that they don't have the airspace to resonate like the older setup. there are probably a thousand other factors, but this is likely the main one.

so in conclusion, give em plenty of breathing room.

Just say no to Ground Pounder Customs.

More box builds

some cars do over 170db with one sub, so clearly my two 12"s can do that in my car, with my knowledge too! look out bitches!

I'm with captain stupid.

Yeah, I'm kinda in the same boat, I

can go subs foward port foward, but basically not a lot of room to work with in these new lancers, DAMN IT!!

crazy to fit so many in so little. Reminds me of some of the porns I've seen?

I like the idea of sealed off but I won't do it. I like everything in my car to come out just incase I have to redo something I don't wanna spend a day or 2 cleaning it up. I can get everything out of the trunk right now in 15 min or less, everything and have it look factory again

10's :pardon:

i'm thinking about a couple of ten's on 2.5k watts vs my 2 12's on 1.2k. i'd have them firing into the cabin.

i'm afraid i'll lose a lot because of less cone area though... thoughts on this?
