What happens when you arc 12v across a magnet

Recommended Posts

yeah that's what doesn't make much sense to me. it seems if it simply switched the polarity it would only go in one direction. it looked like a single stack magnet so i really have no clue what it could be

I know right? And the magnet is some bizarre design. It's a single magnet with a smaller one where the backing plate should be. I'll post a pic in a second

if im thinking correctly, the magnet on the back indicates that the sub wont mess up CRT tv's (like when you put a magnet close to an old school tv and the colors go insane)

You may very well be right. However, this sub doesn't seem to act any different then my other one around CRT TVs. Same discoloring and image distortion

im stumped then. try google? something a long the lines of, magnet on bottom of sub, or something, i dont know.

has it always done that or is it something that just happened one day?

It happened after my friend accidentally arced the power wires from his amp to the magnet.

it may have given the magnet a weird charge. thats how i magnetize all my tools. i wrap them in 16 gauge wire. and arc the wire across a 12v battery. steve did a "how to" about it. im betting it just did something weird to the magnet.

the small magnet is a bucking magnet.

Arcing 12v across probably altered the magnetic field.

MickyMcD - "Capable of making some serious trouser flapping volumes at where's-my-testicles frequencies, the Servo-Drives used to be fairly jaw dropping..."

Any time you have have a power wire next to your frame put some rubber hosing (or cut up an innertube) around it. The wire is bound to wiggle (due to driving or flex) and the casing will eventually wear through.

Its a 15. I like it from a price point perspective, not so much from a build quality perspective. I can share more of my thoughts over a pm if you wish
