totaled my car, airbag question.

Recommended Posts

So, I hit a deer in my car doing about 60mph.. the airbag in my steering wheel blew up in my face, but I was sitting far enough back that it didn't get me.... anyhow I'm going to replace the airbag and I'm wondering if I have to replace the impact sensors or the module in the car also... anyone have experience with salvage vehicles?

Oh and I know.... cool story bro..

Glad your ok. But why would you want to replace the airbag if its totaled?

I was wondering this too. Glad you're okay though.

And the fact more than one person agrees does not make it a circle jerk, it makes it a bukkake scene and you're in the middle ;)

You need to replace both sensors and the module! When you go to replace them make sure the battery is disconnected, if it isnt you can blow the bag again. I know it seems like common sense, but its the little things people forget! Also after you replace the bag, module and sensor, you will need to get the computer cleared of the codes or your bags wont work properly.

U have to replace it all. Also being a GM I would replace the seatbelts that where being used at the time of the accident. Once they are impacted like that some never work right again. Also since it will be a salvaged title you could save money and just put an after market steering wheel in with no airbag.

With a salvage title the car will have zero resale value, just keep that in mind.

Wrong, the loan value of a salvage auto is 80%, meaning it does have some resale value, just not the same as a clear title.

You would be surprised how many cars out there are salvage title.

A lot of times, it may be minimal damage, but the insurance totals it out cause it cost more to fix than what they consider it to be worth.
