wiring from sub to bolts on box.?

Recommended Posts

I've seen people wiring there sub(s) to bolts on the box. This is nice and conviniet when changing ohm load and such.. question I have is, what type of bolt is common to use here? Which bolts have the best conductivity?

Home depot has brass bolts and nuts, but i just use regular 3" all thread rods. It really isn't a big enough deal to worry about it. Just be sure to have firm connections, i have seen loose connections short.

I'm guessing you'd be insulating the bolts from the actual wood with rubber liners, right?

On my way to homedepot to see what I can find. I plan on having four 8gauge wires with soldered ends and a locking washer on the inside wall of the box (from woofer to box) and another set the same on the ouside (from box to amp)

and curious as to if a rubber of some sort would be needed so wires don't touch wood?

i would go with a zinc plated steel bolt since zinc is a better conductor than brass i believe. and wood isnt a conductor so no need to insulate anything
