Cardboardcat15
I have been pondering what to do with my new build for quite a while now, but I can't seem to find out what will yield the best performance. I don't know much about boxes, or how cone area vs. motor play a role in a system sounding louder. I am hoping someone can chime in here. I have about 3.5-4 cubes to play with MAXIMUM. My question is, should I do less cone area and more motor force? Or a little less motor force but more cone area (If these things apply in my situation)? I ask this because I plan on either doing 2 level 4 12's in a nice ported box, or 2 level 3 15's in strong sealed box. My last set up consisted of 2 RE srx 15's (300 RMS) in a sealed box, and it got decently loud (for me that is). What would you all suggest? Is there any way to spitball which would be louder? I don't care about the meter, just being loud for demos and such. Both setups would be run off of a reliable 2.5k of some sort. It would be going in a 92 corolla, which is why space is limited. Bump4life
if you only have 3.5-4 cubes max it is prolly only around 2.5-3 cubes depending on tuning net. so idk how you will fit 15s and get good output out of them or even 12sd for that matter. find a descent pair of 10s. re DC DD. some thing good. maybe even 2 or 3 8s to be impressive. What kind of power are you running? that would also help to know. edit: sorry missed the power. ok in that case id agree with bass monkey and chevy. a nice 15 would be a good choice. but 2 tens on 2.5k would be close if not more forceful for demos with comparable cone area and more motor strength. just a personal preference at that point Buyer/Seller Feedback Thread: http://www.stevemead...5015-bump4life/ MB C220 153 Trunk Car Build Log: http://www.stevemead...d/#entry1840136 MB C280 Ipad Dash SQ Build Log: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/194484-bump4lifes-new-benz-tony-c-relay-kit-pictures-ce-electric-audison-front-stage-installed/ My SPL Log: http://www.stevemead...__fromsearch__1 BMW M340 xDrive Stock, for now. ChevyBoy95
i higher powered 15 would work in 3 to 3.2 cubes. and would probably only need single layer MDF all around. I like this idea, it's easier on weight. My original plan was actually one level 4 15. No matter what I use, I'll be making the box out of birch. I guess it's settled then. Thanks for the help guys. I figure the difference between the 2 tens and one fifteen will probably not be noticeable. My Channel on YouTube. Bacy2k
i think 2 level 4 12's would be better for you than 1 level 4 15. you said youd have about 2.5k for power. so either 2 level 4 12's or 1 XL 15. youd get a little more cone area out of 2 12's, they would require less space, and you would probably get more power handling out of the 2 level 4's than the XL Alpine CDA-9886Hertz Mille 3 ways active Hertz SPL Show 8's 2 Audison Voce Quattro's2 DC Audio M2 Level 5 12'sDC Audio 12.0KKnuKonceptz Wiring4 XS Power D3100'sDC Power 390XPSecond Skin Damplifier Pro and Dynamat Xtreme
Cardboardcat15
i would do 3 10"s or 2 12"s Well, I thought about 3 10's, and the 2 12's I actually had as an Idea (2 level 4) but the issue would be space for ports for the 12's. That, and doing the 1 15 would actually be easier on my wallet for now, because it would allow me to run my AP1500 for now, and I could use my money for other things like a parking pass for winter Quarter LOL.
