FeArZ Posted January 4, 2012 Author Report Posted January 4, 2012 There is no problems as long as you're running OEM components. Read this for how your RVC regulator works: http://www.duboismarketing.com/pages/article.asp?id=31 The only thing you need to do is isolate the factory alternator from the other alternators that you add on. Merzbow ran the factory 270XP for his mids and highs and car while the other 3 ran his sub amplifiers. I'm only going to change my stock alt. I don't have the $ for a dual or triple setup. Unless it would be better to just buy a dual bracket now then a alt later. After reading the link I realize what is going on. I know if I upgrade the alt I have to upgrade the engine ground that goes through the current sensor to 0gauge so it can adjust to the output of the alt I believe. 2009 Tahoe 2000bc Cresendo POWA Need 3500 2 Sundown Zv3 18 high rolled sexiness dual alt bracket with Singer alt(coming soon) Mtx Q(not sure if I'm going to use) Knu wire and RCA's Bass Head Bands Oh and a few pairs of Jordan's

Smoove Posted January 4, 2012 Report Posted January 4, 2012 7 years that's awhile I was amazed also, with the heat in PHX nothing on a vehicle ever lasts. Since I am going to dual electric fans on my radiator I am going to get a Mechman 270. FeArZ Posted January 4, 2012 Author Report Posted January 4, 2012 New development. I have heard that when Tahoes go into v4 mode the alt cuts back on charging, but I have a 4.8L So i do not have v4 mode. Could that make a difference in my overall voltage? I watch my volt meter on my dash and the needle always stays above 14. Oh well no sleep smily I guess. 2009 Tahoe 2000bc Cresendo POWA Need 3500 2 Sundown Zv3 18 high rolled sexiness dual alt bracket with Singer alt(coming soon) Mtx Q(not sure if I'm going to use) Knu wire and RCA's Bass Head Bands Oh and a few pairs of Jordan's

I watch my volt meter on my dash and the needle always stays above 14. Oh well no sleep smily I guess. We have a 270 amp unit that is a direct plug in and maintains all factory functions with the PCM controlled regulator. This would be the best way to go if you only want to replace the stock alternator. Performance is never quite as good with a PCM controlled alternator, but it will be a VAST improvement over your stock alternator, and you won't have to worry about anything being damaged. The MAIN thing to remember when installing the unit, is to not add additional grounds, but rather REPLACE the stock 2 gauge ground cable with a 1/0 gauge ground cable, and terminate it to the housing of the alternator instead of the engine block. (we provide a ground terminal on the alternator housing for this reason) A 1/0 gauge cable will fit through the load sensor, and by grounding directly to the alternator, you negate the need for additional engine grounds. This will give you good performance, without causing any problems. The PCM WILL still control the voltage however, so don't be surprised to see fluctuation depending on vehicle speed/temp/load conditions. Down the road if you want more, you can always add a second NON PCM controlled alternator to a separate battery just for the subs. With a separate charging system, you could run 14V or even 16v batteries without damaging the truck in any way.

Thanks Matt also how do your alts act with a MLA because I think that's the on way I could get constant 14.7 charging? 2009 Tahoe 2000bc Cresendo POWA Need 3500 2 Sundown Zv3 18 high rolled sexiness dual alt bracket with Singer alt(coming soon) Mtx Q(not sure if I'm going to use) Knu wire and RCA's Bass Head Bands Oh and a few pairs of Jordan's
