Autruche Posted January 25, 2012 Report Posted January 25, 2012 Yep, stick with 3/4 thickness for wood. Birch and MDF are the best for boxes in my opinion. They both have pros and cons though. Birch plywood (11-13 layer) is lighter, stronger and produces way less saw dust. It is also easier to paint and doesn't split too bad when screwing into it. However it routs like crap, and it usually costs a bit more than MDF. MDF is cheaper, easier to cut odd angles in, and way nicer to rout (roundovers and such.) However it is heavy, produces craploads of sawdust, is really easy to split when screwing into it, and if you get MDF wet, it is pretty much junk.
