Box Design With Plexiglass

Recommended Posts

So, I'm getting my ideas together on a new trunk enclosure.

I've got a very rough draft of what I plan on doing.

I haven't picked out the subs i will be using, but i do know they will be 12's and are over 700RMS a piece.

Anyways, I want to design a sealed box with plexiglass because i feel a sealed box has better SQ than a ported, but i'm always open minded.

I was wondering if there is a way to secure the plexiglass with this design, and how will it affect the acoustics.

Any help is great appreciated.

Thanks

PS. Has anybody realized how bad spell check messes up your wording?

personally, i think sealed boxes are a waste of a rear wave. but to incorporate the window into the box (use lexan), do 2 layers of the wood and make it so you can flush mount the window.

something like this:

i can't speak from experience on how it will affect the acoustics of the box, but i doubt it will do much if anything noticeable, especially in a sealed box.

some cars do over 170db with one sub, so clearly my two 12"s can do that in my car, with my knowledge too! look out bitches!

you can get great SQ from a ported box. don't fall into that trap of thinking ported boxes are bad for SQ

I already did. But the good news is i can still get out. =]

Anyways, i think im going to have to revise my plans.

How can i avoid bad SQ when building a ported box?

Like sanding the port hole flush? Any other stuff?

there are lots of tricks to improve airflow etc but the real trick is to build and tune a solid and well designed one. Rounding the corners and the port edges the rear of the subcutouts things like that are all great but if its not designed or built well it has the potential to sound like ass.

1) the design should keep group delay low.

2) you should use "only" flared air ports.

Two very basic things to watch for.

Damn, so now im nervous about making my own ported box.

412 CVX what program did you use to make that picture of your box, im using ms paint lol.

Are having boxes designed expensive? I could supply most of the supplies, minus the router and table saw and stuff.

Maybe i should just use my current sealed box for my new subs what ever i decided to get.

Ah, help anyone?
