SnowDrifter
Music is generally accepted as a 50% duty cycle (bass notes don't last forever, as well as box rise among other things) 5000 RMS amp - 90% effeciency at 14.4v - 386a of current draw. 50% duty cycle - 193a. Factor that in with the rest of the electrical demands of the vehicle (seems between 40-50a on average) and you have ~250a average of current draw that you need to feed as a MINIMUM. Even then, there will be times when it will peak well above this - your main issue here will be voltage drop. So pretty much what Gregg said - more batteries, I would say bigger alternator too so your voltage doesn't get too bad (don't want to fry a nice amp now do we?). 14dbass
It is going to depend on if your alt can make up the difference, you do not have enough battery IMHO. I have never had mechman so I don't know what that will do at idle. ChevyBoy95
ok so more batteries/ bigger ones. ill hopefully end up with 4 or 5 hc1400s, or 3 hc1400s and a hc2000. this is just a daily beater. right now running about 3k i have .1v of drop full tilt, and .3v at idle and cant get anything hot at all. a little drop is ok, just want to maintain 13.5v or higher. my alt is 125 at idle (800rpm) 200 at 1200. it does actually about 210 at 1200 and 130ish at idle. ChevyBoy95
Throw another alt in to help out if you can afford. well, instead of batteries, i might switch it out for a singer 270a or high amperage alt. no duals though.
