SlamminBeats
So say its the exact same sub 2 12s vs 1 18 the 18 has more cone area, but not by much. The subs will be top of the line. Which do you prefer? 800 oz of magnet with 2 12s? or 1 18 with 400 oz of magnet but a little more cone area?

SlamminBeats
if like cone area is off by 20, i would think the 2 12s would do more damage? Who knows though?
__d_a_v_i_d__
Motor force vs Cone area, shitload of variables, but 1 thing that matters alot is power. fully powered 18 cone area > motor force half power 12s. also ideal box etc..... so whats the power and subs !? Decaf
many variables but heres food for thought, its not about the area of a circle, its about comparing the SD or piston area case in point, FI Q 12s vs FI Q 18 2 12s SD=2(481)=962cm^2 1 18 SD= 1210cm^2 thats a difference of 38.44sq^2 in favor of the 1 18" using the piston area 2 12s AREA=226.08sq^2 1 18 AREA=254.34sq^2 thats a difference of 28.26sq^2 in favor of the 1 18" using area of a circle in other words, SD is the accurate way to compare speakers because of the surrounds used, the area of a circle is a vague general way to compare (i'd likely pick 2 12s because of the smaller box size and higher power handling since you have twice the voicecoil) Edited February 13, 2012 by Decaf

Socky
If you are going to add more power, i would take double the sub, than running the same single sub. STEvil
magnet weight doesnt equate to a linear motor strength increase as you are suggesting. Quote MickyMcD - "Capable of making some serious trouser flapping volumes at where's-my-testicles frequencies, the Servo-Drives used to be fairly jaw dropping..." Any time you have have a power wire next to your frame put some rubber hosing (or cut up an innertube) around it. The wire is bound to wiggle (due to driving or flex) and the casing will eventually wear through. Hammerdown... 1% no links to outside websites, business related FB/YT pages allowed.
