caliberxl Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 I am building my first big bass system & I have learned a lot from these forums but I am down to the last piece I need to choose an amp. I have a DC audio xl15 m1 and a 3.5 cu ft ported enclosure. I will be running a kinetic 2600 battery with a big 3 upgrade and I need an amp for this beast. The car is a 2007 Dodge caliber. I have been debating between a soundstream and a sundown amp. Problem is I'm not sure how many Watts I should run for a daily system. Sub will be wired to .7 ohms. I was originally going to run 2400 Watt soundstream but have also been looking at a 1700 Watt soundstream or an equivalent sundown. Any input would be greatly appreciated as this is my first big system build.

Hifonics Posted March 1, 2012 Report Posted March 1, 2012 Crescendo audio has good amps. Digital Designs, AQ, Sundown, DC... If you have the money, my suggestion for you would be to get a strong amp now (like 3000rms or more) in case you decide to upgrade in the future. The XL is a good sub. You could probably push 3k to it no sweat if you know what you're doing. But since it's your first install I would say try to push 2k to it to be safe at first then crank the dial up on the gain (using an o-scope or DD-1 of course to ensure no clipping). Best advice I can give you is that the gain knob on the amp IS NOT A VOLUME KNOB. It is designed to be matched to your radio's voltage (or eq if you're running one). So do it right the first time. You have a really nice sub there, read and do research on how to set up your gains when you get that nice amp. Guest Posted March 1, 2012 Report Posted March 1, 2012 audiopipe apk 2500 can do well. same amp as the others people are recommending you to get. edit: even though i never used that amp, and probably neither has anybody else whos telling you to get X amp.
