Reconing coil cap question

Recommended Posts

Started shimming up my woofers to recone them and Im wondering just how much is too much gap. Ive got the whole coil shimmed evenly but it doesnt seem like its very tight. Its also stupid hard to get a picture of. If I really try to I can move the coil all the way in one direction and I'm able ot create a slight gap on the opposite side. Im talking paper thin. Is this going to induce coil rock?Im going to assume once its glued down that will go away but id rather not find out the hard way.Im assuming since its shimmed evenly all the way around it wont be an issue. I just see guys on youtube cramming the hell out of their coil gap and I can barely fit one layer. recones arent cheap for these things.

What/how many are you using for shims right now?

DD sent me shims to use. Its a clear vinyl sheet. I can get one layer the whole way around and thats it. even if I push the coil one way it doesnt create enough space to stick another layer in one side even.

Can you fit something like a piece of printer paper in there?
