Ahhhhh, the weather is finally shaping up.

Time for the summer wheels and to dust off the R1. :D

I've got to say man you did an amazing job on this entire build. I've read it start to "finish" and am following this for all future updates. Hell I even sub'd ya on YT and saw that video before I saw it on here lol. Reading this build and Scooter's Civic build has given me some amazing ideas that I hope to implement on my 03 CTS once I have the money and supplies. Both of your guys builds now has me planning to port though the rear deck and add an actuator for the seats (as far as the port I get to cheat cause I have a 10in hole where the stock BOSE free air sub used to be!) keep up the awesome work man!

New to the car audio world and looking to learn as much as I can.

Thanks! Much appreciated.

Glad I could help inspire some ideas.

Whoa......that's not fair. You already have a rear deck hole?

That would have been nice.....

Can't wait to see what you come up with. Keep me posted! :drinks:

WHERE THE DAMN VIDEOS OF IT PLAYING DAMN IT!!!!!!!!!

Just kidding, sort of. Looks good man, and the silver caps are gonna have to grow on me. I kind of liked the black ones better. I might have gone black cf caps with a black dc logo. Black on black. Still see the logo when you look but just blacked out otherwise. Yummmm.

Anyway. What was squeaking in the video. Is that the seat rubbing together, or is that the actuator? Still one of, if not my favorite, builds on this site.

You da man buddy!! Way to change the game! :drink40:

As requested...Sir:

Notice the complete lack of trunk rattle. :D

I've gotten quote a few compliments at my recent competitions where people state that they can barely hear any vibration at all when I'm in the lanes burping or BassRacing which is kinda cool. I put a lot into sealing off the trunk and its a good feeling to know that its showing.

Adds to the "finish" of the whole system when everything is tight, solid and not rattling like crazy when listening to the system from outside the car.

I demo'd the system the other day at work for some co-workers.

I was a good ~50 yards from our building and I got a lot of comments that people in the building were looking around trying to figure out what the "booming" noise was........ :D

Love the dustcaps bro! makes the subs stand out better and looks good with that aluminium! Great work!

Funny how the people who have a louder system than you will usually give you a compliment about your setup because they know how much blood, sweat, time, and money you put into it. The people who criticize or try and one up you....have a p.o.s to no system at all and will tell you all about this "other" guys system! Saddley I'm sure if I meet this "other" guy...he will probably tell me he thinks your just as annoying as I think you are!

I'm not compensating, just proud of fabricating!

LOL, I get a lot of great comments about the rear seat.

It is REALLY nice to just hit a button rather then manually moving that thing down and up each day (multiple times...).

That'd be cool to see some other guys out there incorporate some actuators too.

Takes some fab work but it really pays off in the end.

Ahh, the sub wiring, great segway into another update.

Here's the whole story on the subwoofer wiring.

After competing for a while this year and from sweeping my system impedance, I realized that I only burp when dBDragging.

That burp corresponded to a point in my impedance curve that was something around 8 ohms or so. :o

So I wasn't getting much amplifier power at all.

If I wired the amp down to 0.25 ohms and strictly burped at that one frequency then I could put out a LOT more power and thusly increase my score.

I tried it out and sure enough, I gained 1-2dB's. I thought it'd be more but I'll take what I can get.

Well...my subwoofer terminals on my box are on the side and BURIED in layers of trim panels.

It'd be way too difficult to swap my wiring on the fly, at a competition.

I've done BassRacing as well which requires music which I'd have to do at 1ohm since the amp usually protects if I push it too hard on music.

I needed a way to switch my sub wiring, on the fly and easily.

Soooo, I hunted around and found some very beefy 150A relays. :D

They needed a bracket

742-relaybracket_zpsa567a374.jpg

743-relays_zps9d72e85a.jpg

These relays didn't have an internal diode so I had to solder some on.

744-relaydiode_zpsddcbc962.jpg

ALWAYS get relays with internal diodes or attach them yourself. Its a reversed biased diode that absorbs the energy from the relay coil and stops some nasty voltage spikes on your electrical system.

Could cause popping noises and other damage to equipment, especially larger relays like these.

Diodes soldered and heatshrunk

745-relaywithdiodes_zpsca562a11.jpg

These relays have 3/8" spade terminals so I had to search around for crimp terminals that would fit.

Here's everything wired up.

746-relaysready_zps9de36fbf.jpg

Stuffed onto the passenger side of my sub box.

747-relaysinstalled_zpsa1c1f381.jpg

So I modded my dash ashtray with some custom goodies.

Of which, were two chrome push buttons. One for my manual remote turn-on. The other was a spare.

Well, this is a perfect use for it so I wired it up.

The push button controls a smaller relay so I'm not drawing very much current back to my trunk. Then the smaller relay turns on the bank of four larger relays.

In the "default" configuration, my wiring is at 1ohm.

With a simple button press, BOOM... 1/4 ohm.

One ohm.

748-button1ohm_zpse7a07549.jpg

1/4 ohm (notice blue ring around the right button). Meter has a bit of internal resistance and shows 0.4ohms which is about ~0.25ohms really.

749-buttonquarterohm_zps09cf73a7.jpg

If anybody is hesitant, I can use a more accurate meter to show the true impedance but the system works great.

The relays simply change the coil configuration between the subs and the amp from series-parallel to all parallel.

More pics, maybe a vid and some SPL metering to come........

BTW, I'm trademarking this as my........."Bass Turbo Button" :woot:
