Hope they warranty it for ya...if not just send it to singer...hung out with him last week for a week and watched him fix a "few" Mechmans with his components and all I can say is...yeah The guy knows whats up and uses the right compenents from the getgo...you get what you payfor...my next build will be singer'd out for sure! Not to mention just an awesome guy to talk to and has amazing customer service and could probably go on for another page about it.hope you get it figured out.

Not much chance of them warranty-ing it. It's 3yrs old so I'm expecting everything out of pocket.

Yep, I just chatted with Singer about his thoughts on this failure.

Super cool dude. Heard nothing but great things about him and his alts.

If I have any further issues then he's definitely getting a call from me.

:D

DC power uses a big solder iron and compressed air to desolder those joints

Compressed air.....interesting!

I'll have to keep that in mind next time.

I have spent the last week reading through your build log Wicks and I gotta say, massive kudos!
Especially for the amount of work and some of the such attention to detail things your have completed.
It's a shame about your Mechman alternator, hopefully it's fixed soon :)

Well thank you, much appreciated!

Heard back from Mechman.

Apparently a rectifying diode shorted, caused a short in the stator windings which caused other diodes to short.

Mechman said they'd send me some pics. I'll post them when I get them.

Good news = repaired alternator is back.

Bad news = the message didn't get to the repair techs..so no pics of the damaged stator.

I also didn't get any test data with the repaired alternator.

Anybody else with new or repaired Mechmans get test data (current draw)? I find it very odd that they don't provide that automatically with every shipment.

I never got any test data when I initially switched my stator windings to 200A @idle / 280A @full either, which was back in 2012.

Just for shits, I'll snap some pics of the repaired alternator and post them up.

I noticed a copper rectifier plate which is different from what I had before.

you sure it wasnt a tinned copper rectifier plate before? if that was an aluminium plate or worse, that upsets me for you.

damaged stator huh? seems fishy. did they charge you for repair?

Maybe it was tinned? Not sure. I just noticed the difference.

Yep they charged me, it was out of warranty and the apparent reason was a random diode failure...

$50 for a new rectifier plate.

$50 for a new stator.

$20 for shipping.

Not as bad as I was expecting but not something I'm excited about fixing.

Well, at least you can play again...... \

im jonsing for my own shit to be up and running..... sorry for the bad luck bro....

:drinks:

Me too...haven't been able to full tilt it in a while. :(

everyones alt are going nowadays, at least your amps are ok

Really? Hmm

Yep the amps are good, thankfully. Dont need any issues there... :trippy:

I just spent 2 days going through all 81 pages... ive always had a thing for trunk builds, looks good! cant wait to see the finished trunk! but lets be honest... is anything really finished in car audio?

Thanks Man!, much appreciated.

Very true!!! Never finished....

Hopefully things get rolling soon and I get it fully presentable.

Soundoffs are starting up again so its time to get this thing ready.

Thanks for the comment :good:
