Low voltage problem... with pics

Recommended Posts

ahh the dreaded gm pcm. i heard that just keeping the headlights turn on solves the problem, but i have an old ass toyota so i cant tell you for sure.

turn your headlights on and see what the voltage stays at when it usually drops to 12v or whatever. i said this before but you probably read over it

this does work on pcm controlled alts. mine would rest like around 12.8 or lower and when the lights are on it would stay at 13.8. what i ended up doing though is just putting a non pcm alt to bypass it. i charge at 13.9-14.1 all the time, only thing is that the battery light is on

stuffs getting complicated way too fast..

start with the easy questions.

is the alt dead?

is the alt even in H/O mode?

on my civic i can sit at 12.6 ALL DAY with the car running due to PCM.

the simplist fix in the entire world is......... DRIVING LIGHTS! (not your head lights on, but the option before headlights)

tada, alt sees the load and goes into H/O mode. voltage is now 14.X

another thing is, the A/C switch, turning my A/C on flips my alt into H/O mode.

dick around with your factory electronics to see which one flips yours into H/O mode. most likely the A/C will do it.

id still say try and external regulator instead of sending it to the pcm

now that youve figured out that your car needs a load for the alt to work like you want it to you have the option of doing an eld mod on your car...

i know this is for a honda but hatersgonnahate has a tut on how to make one seen here: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/139844-how-to-eld-bypass-for-honda-civicaccordfit/
