Sutliff
I just realized - through listening, & watching some volt gauges, etc., that I am DEFINITELY getting/experiencing "belt-slip". I need to address this soon. Sutliff
In the process of getting the above pictured XS Power D975 mounted in the trunk, but, as issometimes the case, if you want to be near perfect, a brain fart, & I cannot proceed any furtheruntil I get a firm answer on the following ... Which is followed by the actual link to the Topic Istarted here on SMDF to illicit folks' responses somewhat faster, than just with an "Update" onmy Build Log. Sooo, ... here goes:" Good afternoon, Folks ...I am sure this is oft-asked, ... but with these AGM batteries, XS' D975 offering in particular, whenmounting in trunk, or any enclosed space for that matter, are vapors, fumes, etc., to be worriedabout? Or should I scheme up some sort of vent system of either a fan or filter, or both, ... or areAGM's different from Flooded BATTs in this regard, & obviously many others? (I would not be askingthis if I have not read somewhere - maybe when I first purchased my D3400, that it was OK to mountthese in many wacky positions ... just NOT upside-down ... & that AGM's nearly give off no toxic-ness.... & if so, which way does any of the "offending" gasses escape? Up? Heavier than air so theylay low?As per my install, I am mounting said BATT terminal side up ... as I, & most would, describe as'normal' orientation.Ready to mount BATT right now, but need to know if I should be fabbin' something first.Thank you ... " (http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/187377-xs-power-batt-d975-sealed-trunk-install-vapors-fumes-etc/ ) Thank to anyone who chimes in either there or here, or both!Be well ...PS: I am taking many photographs of this upgrade! Hopefully it will basically totally addressmy issues, & I can turn my attention to other stuff ... on other vehicles! Sutliff
After finding out these sealed AGM XS Power BATTs are no prob to have in enclosed spaces, ... I got down to business in deciding which side of the trunk to mount a D975 in ... ... but first I needed to back up on some ramps ... with me riding solo on this project, this was going to be easier than a jack & jack stands ... The far rear areas of these trunks, all the way back by the tail/brake lights, have great "cubbyholes" on each side that are perfectly-sized for a reserve BATT ... This cubbyhole is going to provide p l e n t y of room for this D975 ... With BATT in desired position, I traced around the bottom of it, ... & then measured in 7/8" & made marks - that is the edge of where the aluminum brace starts ... BATT out of the way, & brace laid down on drawn marks ... Next, I drilled two holes - 1/4" - marked with a hammerless punch through the holes in the aluminum bar ... Simple, loose mock-up, ... chiefly to be sure the holes line up, & that everything is level ... Some of the hardware used in securing the BATT. Stainless washers, stainless with neoprene rubber on reverse, nylon lock-nuts, & 1/4" threaded rod (not pictured) ... Starting to install trunk floor insulation/deadener ... I have been wanting to start this s s project for over a year ... Now I have the perfect time to start, & great access, etc., ... D975, ... permanently, & securely, mounted ... Finally for the night I needed to find a place for the two RF fuse holders ... I think this location will work just fine ... That there, with my back, hip(s), & leg problems, was a long evening/night for me. I definitely feel accomplished. Next up: A bunch-o-wiring ... cc_audio
The stiffer tensioner might work, however belt slip might still be a problem. With the belt redirect and a fixed pulley there was much more belt wrap on the alternator pulley itself. Its not so much the tensioner is too weak, but that there's not enough belt coming into contact with the alternator pulley. It's all gone! Sutliff
Wow. Build Log just went over 10,000 page views. I know it is absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things, & many on here get 10k views if they buy a new product, etc., ... & some have a respectable, & deserving, 150,000-plus page-viewed Build Log ... many views by me. Nevertheless, I think this 10k is kind of cool for my semi-simple Build. ... &, again, like when I had 8,000, I thank those who have nosed around, ... whether bored, curious, offering advice, or maybe even interested in the Infinite Baffle's creation - for this car -, & it not being a wall. Sutliff
Finally have had the chance to work on a few things with the car/system, etc. Been taking care of my Pop since his open heart surgery - quadruple bypass surgery, & more. Wow, this ordeal can really change someone's whole personality, life, etc., ... I / We had no idea. ... But we will get through it ... not to mention a rather serious surgery my Mom just had ... two people to take care of whilst they convalesce is near impossible, especially when I am disabled myself. Eh, ... Was able to get lugs crimped on SHCA 1/0 cable ... stuff I need to complete the rear BATT upgrade ... Time to heatshrink ... ...
