Meade Or Any One Else With A Walled 4cylinder Small Car

Recommended Posts

I had a wall in my 4cyl Volvo 240 Station wagon. It was slow at accelerating but would still do highway speeds no problem. The transmission died but I think that was from old age not the extra weight.

Not to mention the whole ass end sagged like an old woman which made the steering RATHER light! :)

Well as far as giddy up goes, you add all that weight you will tell a difference in the acceleration. It will feel sluggish, but as far as the engine like everyone has said it will be fine. What will take the extra strain is the Tranny and the suspension. I too have a Civic and I have a racing clutch in it. It holds way better than stock. So I am not worried about that. The suspension on the other hand is what I am worried about. I know eventually I am going to have to replace it. I want to get some air suspension, but the money just isn't in the cards right now. You do alot of highway driving so once you get up to speed you will be fine. It is just getting there that will change.

i have a 1990 plymoth laser 1.8L 5 speed. i am building a wall in mine to section of the rear hatch from the rest of the car.. the hatch area is all going to be amps, wireing, etc, and where my back seat was is going to be my box. so... i have drove around a little bit with all that in there.. it was heavy, it sucked more gas.. i wasnt getting my 40 mpg anymore.. :) but seamed fine for the mock up. :) now i building it. so.

IM A LOW LIFE SCAMMER SO I WAS BANT....TEH HAMMA is NOT my friend

I forgot to add my friend's Suzuki Van. 4cyl 797cc, yes thats 0.7L! It weighed 700KG before the system. We put four 15s and like 9 sheets of of 18mm MDF in that baby. Weighing at over 600KG!

Before the wall, top speed: 115km/h

After the wall, top speed: 115km/h, although it did take twice as long to get there.

You really noticed the difference on steep hills where it just literally died and would only crawl up at walking pace hehe. We did drive it three hours each way to a comp on the other side of the state, full throttle the whole way! Car never missed a beat until it flipped over! But even after then it still drove!
