..i dnt remember if it eliminates it or greatly reduces it

Are you serious?

it's what i've heard? ive not once claimed to be an expert...and i dont see why it wouldnt be true? the displacement of the sub inside the box is useless if the only thing going into the box is the cone...unless u have a sub that goes out like 10 inches??

yes seriously. how does the sub take up and internal space when the motor and basket and everything else is external?

knowing this, the tuning will naturally lower slightly because of the increase of the internal space.

thank you guys alot for the info. i figured it would just increase the box cubes and lower tuning but thank you again for letting me know. if anyone has experience let me know what you have learned from it.

i'm new to the spl world and loving it!!!

Yeah be careful inverting. Do it properly. You have to make for damn sure the sub is going to be able to fit its cone in the hole, or you'll tear the sorround right up.

not all subs are able to play "free-air" (inverted) that's what i was told

also it would be great for SQ purposes but for SPL it wouldn't be so great.. but i think for spl playing subs inverted your trunk/overall car space has a big factor on how they perform

correct me if i'm wrong

Okay.

It wouldn't be free air.

I don't get your SPL and SQ theory.

Inverting the subs makes very very little change, a lot of times its inaudible.

And the fact more than one person agrees does not make it a circle jerk, it makes it a bukkake scene and you're in the middle ;)

I think free air is just where you have the sub with no box at all. just the sub playing in the open air

In an actual trunk set up it would be with an infinite baffle, sealed off. Using the trunk as an enclosure itself.

here they call it free air when the magnet isn't in a box...

cuz they say here inverting subs to switching pos & neg of the sub...

i geuss there lots of differences in "giving the kid a name" sort of speak

but inverted sub can create great sound quality (depending of your trunk space)

but best spl (sound pressure level) is played regular placed...

real free airing is when the sub is literally not in a box. or when its in an infinite baffle setup (google it)

inverting a sub or mounting it normally doesn't affect the "spl" or "sq" of the sub. where are you getting this from? what characteristics change? the motor gets better cooling from not being in the box. it looks cooler because of the motor being outside. the sub will act 99.9999% the same when being inverted. the suspension characteristics dont change whatsoever. it still moves back and forth the exact same way.
