Opinions on hammer crimper and larger gauge wire?

Recommended Posts

If I couldn't use a hydraulic crimper, I would solder. No other way I would crimp wire.

use your hammer crimper, then solder it, or just solder it, its the cheapest way by far. and it holds up very well.

I love car audio so much because I will never be done. I can never win, and I will never get it finished or perfect. It always has me coming back for more, I can never get my fill of it, but I get what I need.

I use something similar to these

http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=360-624&utm_source=googleps

cuts the wire, and there is a bump on the back for crimping. I usually crimp one side down, then the next then one more time in the middle for good measure. Never had a cable come loose on me.

woman..cant live with em...cant shoot em...guess were all fucked

The tool shown by knowledge is the industry reference for large gauge crimping. They are not inexpensive. That being said, hammer crimpers fall into the "indentor" tool category. When properly used, these tools work VERY well. Just ensure that you drive the indentor into the side of the terminal that is OPPOSITE the seam. I must say, I am not familiar with the tool shown by AMI Customs.

i still like solder , but a good crimp is ok to . the thing i like a bout solder is that the connection is sealed .

with my crimper it gets my wire as sealed as it would get as if it was one solid piece of wire.

maybe as far as anyone can see with the naked eye it may appear that way
