Zapanater
So i walk outside to day to go for a spin, turn on my car, and realize my subs aren't on. I pop the hatch, and put my hand on my big amp. It's so hot almost burn myself. You cannot put you rhand on it. It's just from sitting in th sun, but will this harm it? As in without being on can it overheat and fry? The amp is 1/2 stable over both channels so it normally runs quite hot when you push it. (I've only got it bridged at 2 ohms) Quote 2015 Subaru Outback. That is all, I refuse to touch it.
Torres
yes, heat is the #1 enemy of electronic components
BassJunkie
It can't fry without being on, but it could possibly get hot enough to be in thermal protect when you turn it on. Either tint the window or move the amp to keep it a little cooler if it isn't kicking on after sitting in the sun for extended periods of time. SPLadd1ct
I'm gonna say no you should be fine... I had the same problem with my black Sundown 4500D amplifier and it got so hot once it went thermal and my amp would not turn on....although all my amplifiers exposed to some pretty intense heat were never damaged. If you think about it, its really not the components that are getting hot, it's just the case/heatsink of the amplifier, so you really couldn't fry anything....
