Ported Box SQ tuning

Recommended Posts

You'll never get bass as tight as a sealed box out of a ported box. The frequency roll-off is far more predictable and natural across a much broader range of frequencies when running sealed. Your best bet would be a low tuned bandpass box.

You sir, have no idea what you are talking about.

Designing, building, and shipping boxes. Yahoo IM - kingsuv00If the listening level is too loud, please inform the driver, so he can promptly pull over, and let you out.

not many cars can get me to pluggin my ears but this one.......damn. I mean the first minute is ok but that thing just really starts digging deeper and deeper in your earhole till you cant stand it no more. Seems like it does it with relative ease....16 12's on 8 amps.........gotta love it. :)

Look,

if you want a good range in your substage, then you need to understand what it is YOU are looking for in output. A good ported box tuned into the mid 30's and easily get as low as you would ever want it too while still having enough range to get the kicks in the upper 40's

my PORTED box ;) is tuned to 37. Plays well into the teens and will kick you in the face with the dbl kick drum. I compete in SQ, and do pretty well at it now and then

If your looking for SQ, tuning your box in the low 20's isn't a solid idea. SQ and Decaf don't exactly go together. :nea:

i fully agree with this.

tune to low 20's for your home theater. Stay in the 30's to 40's for car audio depending on your taste in music.

Ported boxes are by design to be efficient. They are used to gain the max output on a little amount of power. We SPL guys manipulate that design to give an extreme amount of output in a shorter range. The ported design was never the "SPL only" box design. it's something that has been around way longer then putting smashing beats in your trunk.

Why don't you tell me what I have wrong instead of just insulting me. I don't appreciate it and it's not what I've come to expect on these forums, especially not from the staff.

I'm gonna hate

Don't get all butthurt.

If ya don't know or aren't sure, then read up on the subject before posting. There is plenty I don't post on because others are better informed then myself. this internet thing is a great resource tool. ;)

All I have to go on is my reading and what I've been told by others, and with that knowledge I replied. If you know I'm wrong you must know why or what is right, I'd like to know to so I can improve future posts. :P

If I buy enough mdf I might just build multiple boxes for the hell of it, just to see what each actually sounds like. I'm pretty sure I could shoot questions here all day and not understand any of it until I actually hear these different boxes.

For now I'll just build a box tuned 35-37hz @ req. specs, thanks guys!
