AQ HDC3 18 Box Build *pics*

Recommended Posts

Hey what's up everyone? My plans for the 4 OA 15's fell through due to an unexpected hit to my budget. Would have really liked to had that set up but I am going to have to settle for an AQ HDC3 18 that I am going to order first thing Monday morning. I will be throwing 2.5k rms to this sub so I guess I need to build the box a little on the smaller side due to the over powering factor.

I am wondering if anyone could help me out with a box design for a Tahoe? Looking to have a box around 6-7ft^3 and tuned 34-36hz. My max dimensions are below and I know I won't use anywhere near that much space but just gives an idea of what I have to work with.

Just so everyone knows I'm serious this time the funds are in the account and ready to go Monday. Also will start buyin box materials as soon as I get a design and cut sheet down

Any help will greatly be appreciated.

-James

Well this is from a previous request, feel free to suggest changes:

Enclosure Specifications:

Vb = 6 ft^3

External Height = 19 in

External Width = 40 in

External Depth = 23 in

Port Width = 6 in

Cut Sheet List:

* All Dimensions in Inches.

* Wood Thickness is 3/4 for all Parts.

External Enclosure Parts:

2 x Top & Bottom (3 parts) = 40 x 23

Left & Right Sides =

Side 1 = 21 1/2 x 16 3/4

Side 2 = 22 1/4 x 16 3/4

Front = 33 1/4 x 16 3/4

@john: I think you sold me on a slot port with that 4 15's box design. For daily I'm looking 35-36hz and comps around 40-42? Id be happy with just the 35-36hhz tuning but if you think I could pull a higher score tuned to 40-42hz then ill make the removable port too while I'm building.

Also maybe have the port located facing rear but on the front of the box along the bottom? Like it was for the 4 15's?

@joex: would it mess with the tuning of that box if I moved the port from the left side to the right side? I was looking for it to be along the bottom of the box but if I had to put the port on the side I would probably go with the right side.

Soon as I get off work ill try to help out with the design in torres if I can

I really appreciate it y'all,

-James

Yes you can place the port either side no issues, I don't like the across bottom port since is harder to build and requires bracing here and there in most cases but ok here is a suggestion for such style:

Enclosure Specifications:

Fb = 35 Hz

Vb = 6.15 ft^3

External Height = 19 in

External Width = 38 in

External Depth = 26 in

Port Width = 20 in

Port Height = 5 1/2 in

Cut Sheet List:

* All Dimensions in Inches.

* Wood Thickness is 3/4 for all Parts.

External Enclosure Parts:

2 x Top & Bottom (3 parts) = 38 x 26

Left & Right Sides = 24 1/2 x 16 3/4

Front & Back = 38 x 16 3/4

L Port Internal Assembly Parts:

Front to Back = 19 x 21 1/2

Extension = 1 1/2 x 21 1/2

Port Left Side Assembly:

19 x 5 1/2

7 3/4 x 5 1/2

Port Right Side Assembly:

19 x 5 1/2

7 3/4 x 5 1/2

A similar design can be done for a removable port.

@John: I really like the looks of this box. Got a few questions man.

What would you recommend for bracing?

What would you recommend to use for attaching the removable port to the box when I have the removable port in? Just to secure it so it wont go sliding or flying out.

If I could get a cut sheet for it then I already got my 2 sheets of mdf so I could start cutting the box parts today.

Thanks again man,

-James

@Joe: that looks like an awesome box but I with the removable port hopefully I can have a good daily box along with an SPL box
