Is this enough electrical to run 5k+

The charger helps a ton, bro ran his batts for awhile and burp a 148.8, and charged the batteries, has never been charged since he got them used, then burped a 150.9. But he has a stock alt, and 4 batteries on a aq2200.

Putting a charger on your batteries makes for less strain on your alt. If your batteries are charged up your alt doesn't have to work as hard to re-charge them and keep them charged when you are playing your system the next day.

Just try to maintain the batteries, helps the last longer too, whenever you are driving your vehicle, leave it plugged in, get a reliable charger than trickle charges them, and auto floats.

To the OP, at .5 ohm you gonna have drop, once you max out the reserve on the battery bank you will start to dip below resting voltage. The alt at that point would be wide open and getting hot as you mentioned. So depending on what batteries you settle on that will determine your reserve. You have to remember that when you wire below 1 ohm you dc amperage intake goes up quite a bit.

ill take your word for it lol after i strapped 2 AQ2200s today at .5 ohm. them bisshess dropped my votage like none other.

I may consider dropping to 1x 18 fi sp4 on a dc 3.5k if that's the case. I don't want to hassle with having to top up the batteries every night if i don't have to.

Also would it benefit much possibly upgrading to a 14v system over the stock 12?

At 1 ohm yes but .5 ohm you would have some voltage drop into the 11s.

I would listen to this guy. Something tells me that he knows just a little bit about electrical systems.

Speaking from experience, with a 260a alt and wanting to run a dc 5k at .5 ohm, you will want 3-4 XP 3000s in the back. You dont have to charge them every night, but I would charge them once every few weeks.

Just run at 1 ohm, I don't see the issue as long as you do that still gonna be getting plenty of power and they electrical you mentioned will run that no problem, and since you said you won't have it up all the time, you will be fine and you won't have to top off your batteries like you think, just once in a great while is good unless you are playing it more often. Just use some common sense, watch your voltage gauge, if you start to drop below 12 volts back off for awhile then lay back into it, all it generally takes is 2-3 clicks down on the deck(depending on HU) to get your voltage back right then roll back into it.

And stay on 12 volt, alot more reserve in the batteries then 14 volt batteries.
