First ever car accident.

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, just figured I'd share some pictures of you of my first ever car accident. Everyone was ok, and the other driver got the citation for the accident. Here's some pictures:

He U-Turned in front of me, I was in the left lane so I got as far left as I could and slammed on the brakes and hoped for the best, he seemed to me to be trying to get into the right lane but turned to get back into the left lane where we collided. We hit and I launched his car forward, felt like bumper cars to me, his car shut off on impact, I pulled off to the right side of the road in the grass and turned my hazards on, got out to look at the damage and noticed coolant draining, so I turned it back off.

Both my and my passenger were shaken up but ok, all 4 passengers (even the two in the back seat) were all alright as well. I wish there was a way for me to of avoided this collision but there really wasn't much else I could do.

I thought I was gonna get the ticket for rear ending them but he got a ticket for violation of right away. He thought I switched lanes but I was in the left lane the whole time.

I'm sure their car is totaled, it's crushed up to the back window and the back window came out, you can see it laying on top of the crushed trunk. It could of been worse if it bounced back and hit the passengers, or bounced up through my windshield.

As far as I can tell, my truck is fixable. I need a new passenger fender, hood, bumper, grill, passenger light assembly, heater core, and possibly radiator. I'm going to call my insurance company in the morning.

Think my insurance company will pay to fix it? It's a 1998 Mercury Mountaineer, 5.0L AWD. I'm hoping that I can get it fixed and continue driving it especially since I now know first hand of how safe it is.

I'll post some daytime pictures in the morning for the gearheads here to assess what's broken or not.

Dayum, you made light work of the ass of their car! hah glad everyone is alright. It sucks when you can see it happening but nothing you can do

Good rule of thump is go by what fuse size is being used in these amps. The higher the more amperage it pulls, this is what I look at.

I'll stick a 300 amp fuse in a potato and sell it to you for $2k.

Glad to hear you're okay man! Sucks to hear about the accident, could of been worse, thats how i look at things.

Sure fucked there car up though!

If insurance doesn't fix it, and you can buy it back, if they want to junk it, and you wanna keep it, or however it works, i'd think you should be able to fix it, but wouldn't it have a salvaged title? Not sure, but if it comes to that, it may work.

it's hard to tell what's going on in the pic, but that sucks man. My first accident turned out totaled.... those damn trees will come out of nowhere.

I don't think it'll be the easiest task to gather parts, but I don't think it will be too expensive.

Oh, and before anyone asks, my subs are OK :P

I'm also wondering why my airbags didn't even go off. I guess I slowed down enough when I hit the brakes that it wasn't enough of an impact to set them off?

I dont know if this is correct or not, but in some cars the sensors for the airbags are inside the engine bay a bit, so if you have a fender bender they wont go off. but if the damage goes past the bumper it sent of the bags. I could be talking complete shit here though hah
