CJ18
It's not about getting it off, it's about putting it back on. I did it and got it off cleanly but when I glued a new one back on I blew the cone out. Just not worth it to me when I dome can be glued over top of the flat. AMI CUSTOMS
That doesn't even make sense how would you blow the cone out from cutting a dust cap off and replacing it with a new kevlar cap? I have done all 4 of my AQ subs and didn't have a single problem. Sounds to me like if the cone was gonna blow out it was gonna do it regardless of changing the dust cap. CJ18
It blew out because I glued a flat cap back on. If I would have used a bigger cap there would have been any problems.

If by chance Cody had scored the cone to much when removing the other one it would make the cone weaker. Absolutely feasible.

If by chance Cody had scored the cone to much when removing the other one it would make the cone weaker. Absolutely feasible. Exactly what happened. It looked good to the eye but I know I cut into the cone when trying to cut the dustcap off. Just not worth the risk. I was also putting over 3000w to the sub when it blew the cone out. That much power and a weakened cone don't play well together.
corona_jeff
Just put the 6.5" done caps over all the flat caps

CJ18
So it was user error then, okay I see now lol. Yes it was. Cutting the caps off without damaging the cone is tough and not worth the risk if you can just glue a larger cap over the top if you want to change the appearance. Crandis16
After I got my recone I painted the dustcap and put it on, then it came off because there was paint on the gluing surface so it popped off. after gluing it back on I just taped the rest of the sub off and spray painted again. It turned out very good BTW CJ18 I got my gains set properly with an o-scope and everything is working GREAT sorry for all the trouble I gave you lol Quote My Red zx2 Build Log My Black zx2 Build Log My Red zx2 UBL
