Flyingsheep Posted August 29, 2012 Report Posted August 29, 2012 Hi, I installed an Alpine CDA-105 in my honda accord about a year ago by myself and eventually installed a kicker ix-404 bridged to a 2x10 sub. Everything worked fine, seemed to have low sub volume unless I bumped the sub level to 15... which I heard is what you're supposed to do anyway. Well, after 4 days suddenly there was no sound going to the sub woofer. And it didn't make sense. Checked all the wires, relocated the ground multiple times, checked the settings in the head unit, amp power is on, everything seemed to be how it should be. I tried everything to figure it out and I've given up on it for a while. Now I had the opportunity to try another amp to see if that was the problem. Plugged it all in, same problem. Then I swapped out the RCA cable but there still isn't any sound whatsoever. Also tried the other outputs and got nothing. This amp also shows to be powered on. The only thing I can really think of is no sound is coming out of the preamp outputs on the CDA-105. Is there some setting that would disable the preamp outputs? I've looked everywhere in the menu and can't find anything. This has been an ongoing problem for a year now and I'm finding it pretty ridiculous that there seems to be no solution... until I replace everything. Any ideas?
CXHBumpin39 Posted August 29, 2012 Report Posted August 29, 2012 If there's multiple settings like standby, tuner, aux, etc... check for a setting for the rca's in each of them, if you can't figure it out just contact alpine and they will help you with the issue.

Reset the HU and test again, if you really lost the sub signal you can still get bass from the full range RCAs just low-pass with the amp filter.

If you had the same prob with another amp and it's not your wiring then I'm gonna say something went wrong with your HU. I would replace that if you have money, call alpine tho and see what they come up with

Also seems to be no settings in the menu for turning them on or off Send a signal to the amp from another source like a portable player just to make sure everything is right on the amp side.

Flyingsheep Posted August 29, 2012 Author Report Posted August 29, 2012 Figured it out, thanks for the help guys. I used the idea of using another device but the other way. Used a Canon 7D to plug the output of the HU to the camera and recorded a video. It recorded sound from the HU just fine. So I went to the amp and did the same thing. Sound came out of the amp. Then I wired the amp to one of the speakers instead and sound came out. Checked the subs, no sound. Took apart the sub box to check the wiring and turns out the subs are frozen! Won't even budge. I have no idea how that happened but obviously that is the culprit. Thanks everyone
