Jordan Guess Posted September 6, 2012 Report Posted September 6, 2012 okay so im on break before i go back to work and was hoping to start defusing the issue that my wife presented to me. From what she explained, when she started to drive down the street today, the truck was making a lunging, or jumping motion (at all speeds), and seemed as if the vehicle wanted to shut off. it occured to me that this could be a problem with faulty wiring with my alternator? i just installed a AQ2200 and wired it only at 2 ohms, but my battery and alternator are stock and im sitting at 13.8 volts while playing full tilt. I am running zero gauge to the amp, but i have not yet installed a "big 3" yet. I was hoping that maybe somebody could confirm why her truck is lunging and wanting to shut off, and that i very well could be just using to small of wire, or bad grounding because i have not done the big 3 yet? your help is much appreciated, thanks.

Jordan Guess Posted September 6, 2012 Author Report Posted September 6, 2012 yes check engine light has been on for a while, spark plugs were just changed about 2 months ago. its a 1999 Ford ranger XLT

Guest Posted September 6, 2012 Report Posted September 6, 2012 check what the engine light code is for. autozone does it for free. edit: i dont see how installing an amp (especially when not playing music) will cause a car to lurch and jump.

If ots putting a big load onto alt, it will surge a bit Again.. Jordan Guess Posted September 6, 2012 Author Report Posted September 6, 2012 i dont think she had the system playing. i am going to do the big 3, and change the o2 sensor, (she just got the check engine light code-was the o2 sensor). and see how it goes from there.
