SnowDrifter Posted September 9, 2012 Report Posted September 9, 2012 Big 3 - Upgraded alt charging wire - Upgraded battery ground - Upgraded engine block ground Definitely don't skimp on this when doing a 270a alt. Imagine that much power flowing through the factory ground. You'd melt it in no time haha ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444
TylerParrish Posted September 9, 2012 Report Posted September 9, 2012 Yep, like everyone else said, minimum of 1/0 gauge, hell, I figure everyone should do atleast 1/0 gauge no matter what size the amp is! But one run of 1/0 gauge should be fine since it's short. Just look up the Big 3and what it is and do that and you could use CCA wire, but I suggest OFC for this. Just my $0.02 CCA (copper clad aluminum)=aluminum OFC (oxygen free copper)=copper what do you mean look up the big 3? and thank yall very much for yalls help! i'm clueless with car audio and ive been having crazy electrical issues and hoping this alternator is the answer to my problems in my escalade. The big 3 gives your electrical system more power. You can buy the upgarde here http://www.sonicelec...grade-kits.html no it doesn't, don't say thing you don't know are true. It gives you a better current flow through your system since the wires are bigger (if I'm wrong, someone say so). And knu kolossus is ofc, but stinger, kicker, blah blah blah...cheapest you'll prolly find is 2/0 gauge welding wire though What the f**k is an appropriate signature supposed to look like?2013 Kia Forte Koup Pioneer AVH-X4600BT iDMax 12 DD M1c @ 2 ohms Rockford Prime 200.2 Pioneer 6.75" Comp Set XS S3400, D2700 Project DB Battery Terminals Axxess ASWC Stinger HPM Everywhereeee 90 Sq. SnowDrifter Posted September 9, 2012 Report Posted September 9, 2012 also can anyone recommend a brand/site i should go with. i can't find any 00 on the knukoncept site. and all their stuff is cca. Don't do 2/0 wire lol. Do two runs of 1/0. Like two 0 gauge wires going to the battery, as well as the rest of the big 3 OFC: http://www.knukoncep...sus Fleks Kable Edit: Spelling ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444

Imagine that much power flowing through the factory ground. You'd melt it in no time haha I believe someone said it somewhere on the forum... you can do the big 3 without a h/o alt and that'll help obviously to an extent. But you MUST do the big 3 with the h/o alt unless you want some fried wiring. Too much current for the wiring so you must do the big 3 with the h/o alt. As for brands? Stinger is all I can think of if you can't find any of knukoncept... but it's 1/0, not 0/0. Sheena = pedobear

SnowDrifter Posted September 9, 2012 Report Posted September 9, 2012 Lets clarify something... Doing the big 3 will somewhat reduce voltage drop, but it is nothing miraculous. It might be 1, maybe 2 tenths of a volt. But the purpose of doing this upgrade is not, and never was for higher voltage. It is so you don't have 3x the amount of power running through the factory grounds and charging wires. More often than not, they are barely adequate for the stock electrical system. Once you start adding more current demand as well as an huge alt (which will draw as much power from the ground as it puts out through the positive) that wiring instantly becomes grossly inadequate and will turn into a fire hazard due to the amount of heat generating when drawing that much current through said wires. ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444
SnowDrifter Posted September 9, 2012 Report Posted September 9, 2012 So it is for safety. Potentially less voltage drop is a side effect, but is irrelevant to it's original purpose: providing an adequate conductor for current to flow without creating a fire hazard ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444
