Bump4life Posted September 20, 2012 Report Posted September 20, 2012 its not hard to recone a sub at all man. order those AQ recone kits. they give you everything to do it. shims to center coil and all. youtube videos teach you all. learn the rest from experience. at least the recones are cheap so if you mess up its not too expensive. 252chevyboyz Posted September 20, 2012 Report Posted September 20, 2012 Here is the pic of the spider area. Also this is my ongoing process of reconing a SA-8 v1.5 and you might be able to pull some ideas of how to disassemble by looking at this. http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/150982-reconing-sa-8-v15-w-pics-pg-3/ Also a thread I like to look at for reconing http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/33737-how-to-recone-a-sub/ To get the spider out and the coil out you can take a razor and cut the spider all the way around and then proceed to to pull the spider and coil out. I do believe around the spider there is a ring that helps clamp the spider to the landing. Just remove the bolts/screws from that ring and then just pull the ring off and the spider should come on out. Please correct me if I'm wrong - 1997 Chevy Tahoe- Big 3 (1/0)- Dual Autocraft Batts- JVC KD-A315 HU- AQ 2200.1D- 18" AQ HDC3- Box w/ Removable Port (6ft^3 @ 36hz & 6.7ft^3 @ 42hz)- 39' 1/0 & 13' 2/0 Flex-A-Prene My Selling Feedback Build Log

Please correct me if I'm wrong Yep, just unscrew that spider ring and cut the whole spider, coil cone etc out. The just get every bit of spider and surround off of the surface of the basket as best as you can. I used an angle grinder. Then clean the surface with rubbing alcohol and your good to start gluing down the new spider/surround. It's really simple. Oh and btw, getting that spider ring back in is a PITA, so just ditch it.
