below you see my description of my stereo

im making a bad mistake by not even having a cap on the system (ran out of money)

how bad is this hurting my alternator and amp and sub

at idle i have 13.8volts at the amp but when its cranked up i go down to about 12.5volts

i dont crank it up a lot just because im scared but how much damage could it be doing to my electrical system or my electronics

dont worry i will be getting a cap soon possibly a battery if i can get one cheap

dont waste you money on a cap, instead do the big three and get a good battery to put in the back.

but im not running anything big i probably running just over 1000rms(at the most) for the entire system i dont see the need for the big 3 i might get one of these at the most http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_7324_Kinetik+HC+600.html i dont think i need that much because i dont plan on upgrading my system(subs and amps) anytime soon for sure

what is the problems with caps thats what i want to know cause i see me being ok if i got a 2 fared cap for my system somethin like this http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_6937_P...E+COMPACT-.html

The main problem with caps is that they hardly hold any power at all, I think my 1.5 farad I got off a friend for dirt cheap would only hold my amp on without any signal input for a couple seconds max. Remember that is without any speaker use at all, just the amp. Therefore, the cap isn't going to be able to sustain your voltage with the amp putting out power for any measurable period of time. On the other side, the big 3 will help get power from your alt and front battery to your amp, keeping the amp's voltage up. If you want, use a dimm and measure what your voltage is at the alt when your bass hits. I guarantee it is a good amount higher than what your amp is seeing at the same time.

your car will spend more electrical energy trying to charge a cap than it will trying to charge a battery. A cap is designed to release all of its energy at once, where a battery is a constant steady supply of power.

I think that is right. some body back me up or correct me on this...
