Eddie Long Posted September 25, 2012 Report Posted September 25, 2012 I love my Springfield XD 45......good thing about the XD's is they don't kick very hard at all. They have a double recoil spring. And, it's a pretty reliable gun. Best thing you could do is find some friends with some pistols and go shoot some rounds. If you have an indoor shooting range near you, most ranges have rentals so you can try out many different models. The biggest thing is finding one that you are very comfortable shooting.........hope this helps Dude REALLY.... Having someone shoot a 45 that is looking for a beginner gun is like handing a 16 year old kid with a learner's permit Keys to Ferrari and telling them NOT to wreck it... I would stick with a 9mm for a decent CCW weapon that is REASONABLE to shoot OP I wasn't really suggesting a 45.....I was suggesting the XD in any model. I should have clarified that

I checked into the .45 I like the looks of the 4" compact XD 45, but of course it's not about the looks haha. It just seems that the .45 ammo is a bit more expensive than the 9mm rounds. Since I'm planning to put quite a few rounds through this as my first handgun I think I'd go 9mm simply for cheaper rounds and as I mentioned above I likely will not be using my first gun as my daily carry once I get my ccw. Would either of these be okay? Bigsix Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 If you want a cheap decent range caliber look at 9mm but unless you plan to buy used you may have to open your bidget a bit because most DECENT reliable pistols start around 500 and go up.... You can get cheaper but nothing i would consider to be a good ccw weapon 500 would get him a brand new Glock at our shop. IMHO 500 is a fairly decent budget for someone looking for a decent handgun, a lot of options around that price point. 94jettameowpsst Posted October 25, 2012 Report Posted October 25, 2012 I'd personally buy a 22 or a 9mm just to get the feel for aiming down the sights but the hard part about that is if you move up to a larger caliber gun you're going to have to readjust for kick and everything else all over again. It comes in 9mm as well. Has a couple safety features, night sights. I'd recommend it. Not a bad gun. I dont want to scare you away i just wanted you to know that smaller weapons in calibers like 40 and 45 can be a handful.. They are great weapons but its just something to consider...
