I finally got everything done motor and drive train wise.fired her up broke in the cam and then.drove her around.for a hour or so then parked it.but then just went to take her out to o street " cruising" road on fridays and saturdays.well got to about 27th and o. And everything goes wrong! Water pump pulley.broke! Well the bolts did and it was a new water pump! Dk why! Didn't tighten them to tight at all Well since that broke it snapped the belt.which the belt cut the hoses and battery wires and bent the alt pulley and fucked my fan up! Ughhh! That will riun a night by far! Its on my mustang.built motor didn't even get to dyno! But a guess 450 to 500hp
Captain Stupid Posted September 29, 2012 Report Posted September 29, 2012 Pics would help, but it sounds like maybe your belt was too tight? Is it a v-belt or a serpentine? Either that or your idler seized up if it is a self-adjusting serpentine. There's 4 bolts that scew threw the.pulley into the pump.they snapped and grade.of bolts idk.stock ones?

Nice, clean new bolts will quickly work their way loose if you don't use loctite on them. You HAVE to use loctite blue or red. Once one or two bolts back off slightly, it isn't long before the pulley wobbles and the bolts break off just under the head. That'd be my rudimentary guess without seeing pics. Seen this happen on a couple of built 6.4 Powerstroke trucks, and a badass 6.0 TT truck that snapped an alternator bracket. Loctite on the bolts will keep them from backing out so quickly. This would be my guess bolts came loose causing a greater load on the bolts then it was a matter of time before they broke. Damn beat me to the punch. ^^^^
