medley123
Just a quick question about the charging voltage. I just bought myself a D3400 a couple days ago and I already love it even though I havn't even installed it! I was wondering what would be considered "OK" for charging the battery up. The charger I have is charging at about 14.6 and I know on the XS sheet it came with not to let it go above 14.4V +/- .3 for more than 5 minutes, should I just keep an eye on the charger or is it ok charging at 14.6? Dan2427
I don't know for sure but I think you'll be fine.. I've HEARD they say nothing over 14.7 or 14.9, then again I think Steve is at 15.3... He's talking about a charger, not alternator charging Sorry if I wasn't clear about it, yeah I was wondering about the charger voltage, though I was also going to ask about the voltage from the alternator as well. I've seen posts from XSpower saying not to go over 14.4 for both charger and alternator but i've also seen plenty of people running around 15.1 as well. Any other info would be great on this. Tarball
2.4v per cell for XS batteries 12v = 6 2v cells * 2.4 = 14.4v 14v = 7 2v cells * 2.4 = 16.8v 16v = 8 2v cells * 2.4 = 19.2v Max sustained charge rates This is to prevent gassing of the battery. I'm sure you can get away with more and still be "safe" but you could shorten the life of the battery - not to mention potentially void your warranty.
