TylerParrish Posted November 15, 2012 Author Report Posted November 15, 2012 Yeah my fault, the dimension got cut off. (see the leader that goes nowhere?) The radius of the port/kerf is 2 1/4". ...But, that is not all effective port. Most of the time people say the effective length of the port is reduced by half the radius. That's why I show the start of the port 1 1/8" behind the face of the baffle. My bad man, the radius of the kerf is 4.5". Bump4life Posted November 15, 2012 Report Posted November 15, 2012 i like all the specs. especially with the 10s i like to stick closer to 36 hz tuning to protect them. i feel with a little larger subs you can get away with tuning higher since the suspensions are more forgiving. personally I wouldnt make this so complicated. did you calculate all the kerfs and what not? thats a pretty big part of your port. dont want your specs to be too far off after you build., and the v in the back of port is un neccessary. wait what? you do know subs move less with higher tunning????? why would the suspension have to be more forgiving if there not abuse as much at a higher tunning??? i would tune to 38-39 i also hated my dd9500g's 10's anything lower than that the output would just drop off tunned lower then 38hz higher tuning means less low end protection. with a larger sub in most cases you have a larger spider landing allowing for a larger spider. more material there to allow more throw with less stress on spider and joints. small subs such as 10s dont ahve that luxury. yes i know subs would move less with a higher tuning. but tuning higher loses lowend output. in my experience with DD of all sizes 8s-18s if you want to play into the 20s you gotta tune around 35-36. i agree that you lose significant output when tuning that low which is why i am tuned to 39-40 on my current box. if you want a good mix tuning to 37-38 i have found to be a happy medium. I'll redraw - the port "L" gets longer and your net goes down. CaPRiCEx383 Posted November 15, 2012 Report Posted November 15, 2012 I don't know why you guys always gotta hustle DD specs. Well of course if you make it huge with a gang of port its gonna be "LOUD" on the meter. Try playing music with a 2.5 cube box for a 10 with 20"/foot. I made sure not to follow what you guys told me, because I love playing music and shredding some LOWZ. I tried 2.2 with 15per at 34hz and that shit was nice. I had another one designed because I upgraded amps, Then I paid a legit good box designer and his specs were dead on to the one I already had designed for it. And it was about 15per at 2cubes for a 12" when these guys were throwing 2.6-3 cubes with 18"-20" per. If I would of done that I have no doubt that shit would of blown to shreads quick. Just my little rant. TylerParrish Posted November 15, 2012 Author Report Posted November 15, 2012 Idk man. After playin with things for my aq, I realized some subs just like certain things.
